FrankenPizza
« on: December 13, 2015, 08:22:07 AM »
Been working on this project for a while.
I had an old Sears economy kettle with rusted out leg sockets. I cut the bottom 2 inches off the lid, inverted the bowl on that and pop riveted it together.  Cut a hole in the front and put a thermometer in a rust hole from the grate holder.
I cut 3 round pieces out of the lid and pop riveted them over the leg socket holes. Elevated an 18" grate, threw on a pizza stone and.....it's Alive!
Very happy with the results. This can fit in any 22.5" kettle.  Poured a chimney of unlit lump in a c shape around the back of the kettle,  put a lit chimney of lump on that, and a few cherry wood chunks. temp stayed around 700 for about an hour. Cooked 4 pizzas, all turned out great, but i didn't get a pic of the top of a pizza.  Here's some pics of the setup and a perfect crust.

Great work!  I like it.

That's why I say rescue anything, no matter the condition.  Projects like this is what it's all about.  Thanks for sharing.

One chimney of unlit lump charcoal in a c shape around the back of the kettle, 1 chimney of lit lump charcoal in top of that, and s few small wood chunks. Works great...after about 45 minutes the heat started to dissipate, but held on long enough to get through th 4th pizza

I love it!
I think that re-purposing old Webers that aren't candidates for restoration is a great way to show RRR. Especially when they get used to accessorize another Weber.
Your thread is making me think that I may actually get a pizza cooker.

Here is another awesome re-purposing thread:

Yes Lumpy inspired me with that one. Very ingenious. That's the post that got me thinking outside of the box. His design works great as a smoker by the way. And i would have never thought of the FrankenPizza if it hadn't been for his inspiration!
