I knocked off Hogsy
« on: June 10, 2015, 09:24:48 PM »
Wanting to get a better handle on airflow and inspired by @Hogsy, I had these fabricated.  Have not tried them yet.

These are made from 1/8" steel and are nice and heavy and solid feeling.  They should take high heat, but may be susceptible to rust.  I'm seasoning them a few times before I start using them.

They work with one or two charcoal baskets, both the original and new style.  They work with Weber Drip pans as well as the ones from my near by Cash and Carry.

Sorry about all of the pics.

AWESOME!!!! I love the basket shaped one, that's a great idea
Looking forward to seeing how they go. It may seem obvious and your probably going to do it anyway but don't forget to cover them in foil when cooking...makes for an easy clean up
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Thanks for the foil tip. I would not have figured that out until after scrubbing them out a few times.

Scared me - I thought you were confessing to killing Hogsy.

Awesome work, though.

Hogsy?  Naw, he's cool. No need to "knock him off".  His products, yes. The Legend, no.

Those are nice!  Great job getting the two pans geometry matching so well. Somebody knows what he's doing.

That's the CNC machine and a pro metalworker.

I had a guy lined up to make these in Stainless, but he didn't have a CNC set up, so decided to go with precision fit over stainless.

I put 4 or 5 coats of flaxseed oil on these for a seasoning.

Now, to try them out.

Ah... I figured the rim was rolled to a diameter and the bottom cut to match. So the bottoms were watered jetted or something and the rim bent to match?

They look so good folks are gonna ask where you bought them.

Yes, I think.  The bottom and straight sides (1 piece) were cnc cut and bent, then the round sides were welded on.

I'm pretty sure that it was a water jet.
