Ash Sweep Handle
« on: April 11, 2015, 07:00:26 PM »
I have a broken 7409 ash sweep handle. Any way to just buy the handle? Will the newer version work?

The new one has a "key" that sticks up that clips into the "H" washer. You might need to grind it off to get it to fit. You could also bend round bar and make one. :)

Yeah, the little key isn't very much metal....grind or even file off ......I have one or two that cracked before i got them & I just cut them shorter & re-fit them in.....a bit close to the bowl, but if it's broke right at the nut, there's still some length......

May even have spares of those unless they are with those wheels I can't find..... :o  LMK?

I was thinking the same thing- just grind off the key and go from there. Thanks, fellas!

I am going to be removing a working 7409 sweep that is just missing a blade from one of my kettle here in the next week or so. If I can get that freakin thumbscrew out without it breaking, I would be more than happy to send you the handle.

What? Your not supposed to pass on grills. Don't ever tell my wife that is an option or I am in really big trouble!! That makes two you have passed on in as many days..

Well I didn't pass on this one. The seller sold it before the time we agreed to meet. That was a red SS performer for $65. No passing on those!
