I picked this up today for the asking price of $20 because the person held it for me throught the holidays. It's in better condition than I could have hoped for. The seller said she never used it, but it shows evidence of possibly one maybe two cooks. I think Model "A" is fitting since the black ones are so much more common than a colored one you would think it was the only choice.

Sweat score, Duke!  :D The old ones never come up around here. Of course, I believe in 1979 there were only black SJ's. I don't think colored/red ones returned until the mid-late '80s.

I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Nice addition to the SJ collection.  That handle is a beauty.

Duke, I'd love to see pics of the entire SJ lineup of yours!   :D

Looking good man, had a NIB just like that one, sold it like a damn idiot!

Very Nice! I scored a "B" just like that back in November, but not in nearly as nice a condition as yours. The three vents make a difference as far as a mini goes; no ash can necessary  :D

Because Here we are Friends. Here we are Brothers.
A family in the name of Weber.

Probably a dumb question but is A the first year of making these?
Go easy on me guys

Hey Duke, do you still have the one I sent you that was very similar to this one?  Was there a date code on that one?

Brian

I think that was just the first year they started dating them.

Yes, I still have it. I just checked it and that one didn't have a date code. I think it's just a little older than this one. Danny, I think Chad might be right that it was the first year they started adding a letter on them.

I'm not sure most people notice, but on the older design the bottom was just round like this one and then weber removed the inner tabs that hold the top grate on and added a ridge or lip to hold it in place.
