Anybody else aware that weber no longer offers ss grates for the 22" and any afternarket ss options??

There were a few people that used only SS grates....trying to remember who?

Haven't heard any discussion about them for some time now......the 26-3/4" replacement ones, I think, are SS.....

Yup. The 26" seems to come with ss.

If caring decently for the nickel plated weber grates any idea how long these last...1 or 2 years before rust settles in?

Kinda bummed ss is no longer available...

@toolhead

Don't have any of the very newest standard ones, but they are thinner material, fewer rods & frankly, a tad cheesey................... :o

Caring for them comes in different shapes & sizes....so to speak......

I'm in the "coat with bacon & beef grease" camp, while others may clean them better / more often...

If rust occurs, a bath of vinegar, water with a heavy sprinkle of baking soda after the soak will pull the rust up & then we're back to the "coat with bacon & beef grease"  idea to keep the rust at bay.......

I would think they'll last more than just a year or two & then the rust clearing plan comes in......I have ones that have been going for at least seven years......however, I have a ton of grates so none really get used like everyday perhaps like some folks might......rotation is a friend !!!!

Weber still has these SS hinged grates for 22" Kettles, they just changed the part number back in November of 2014. I found this out by finally getting hold of the "right" sales person who was kind enough to research this for me.  The new part number is 80728   and the cost is $58.47. I bought 3 of them in November for my high usage kettles.

To me, stainless steel grates are the ultimate. No maintenance (just cleaning) and never rust. Plus when they get dirty I can soak them for several days without jeopardizing them.

coat with bacon and beef grease, LOL that is funny, But I use the same method

I actually was cleaning one of my Smokey Joe grates teh other day and was trying to figure how old it was, about 4 years I think. You know it looks great for that old of a grate, especially knowing that for 2 years that was my main charcoal unit.

I had a Stainless on my last 22 and it was nice, just not my thing I guess

anyway good to hear they still sell them for all you guys who want them

I don't see the 80278 on weber ' s page or through any of the magic of google.  There are some "grill grates" that come up but not weber.  Maybe the only way is to actually call weber.

Yep, this is the only way I was able to get them. In my experience, nine time out of ten buying directly from Weber is cheaper than anywhere else such as ereplacementparts. This SS grill is expensive, but I had no way to compare in this case.

Grill Care, huh?
~ $35 is cheeeep for a 22.5" SS grate ... and hinged. Wonder if it's any good. Might have to splurge, and give my Gourmet grates a break since I rarely use an insert.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I have 2 on backorder with Amazon for $29 shipped. It will be a few weeks before I get them but I can deal with that.  I wish I knew about Grill Care grates before I paid $60 for the Weber one a few months ago.
