So after all this time of you guys finding these nice old colored kettles, I FINALLY found one..well two...
Woke up early this morning...and spotted this on craigslist and about crapped myself because I couldnt believe my eyes. I quickly emailed (too early to call) and received an email back pretty quick telling me that Joyce would be at church this morning and to call her at 9. Called her at 9, nothing, 10..nothing....Finally sent another email and got a response that she sometimes helps out at church and to try her again around noon. Noon came and still nothing. By this time, I am going crazy. It was supposed to be a beautiful day and had lots of grilling plans, plus the fact that it was about an hour and a half away, so couldnt decide what to do. Finally about 130, tried to call again and didnt get anything and sent another email to see if he could help. He had advised that he was just listing them for the owner and he had no access to them and was also unable to get a hold of her. And then finally...I got a call back from her. She still had them and I could get them anytime. Of course by this time I had just put ribs on the kettle and prayed that they would be ok on the 3 hours I would be gone and headed out. Got there and it was a nice older lady that said her and her husband bought them new and they had them for years. Her husband had passed and not been used for years. We asked why there were two of them and she said that her husband cooked for the family and grandkids and the 22" one was just not big enough so they decided to purchase the 18". She said they didnt need all the space of another 22, so the settled on the 18. She advised that they always stored them in winter and had always been covered outside of the last year since her husband had passed.
Anyway..there was a little history I got and below are the pics. They are not mint, but will add very nicely to my collection...finally starting to get some color. Now, I just need to figure out the years...anyone have ideas? I was thinking somewhere between 68-70 on the 22 and maybe 70 on the 18? The 22 is Patent Pending and the 18 has a patent number. She was not sure how far apart they got them but I didnt get the idea it was too long apart.
Here are the pics..enjoy..
