That's awesome! The spin marks give the 26r's so much character imo - those are deep and really cool looking!

might just be my monitor but it doesn't look quite as squared off as most flattops?

What a beauty!

its because its not a flat top, the earliest 26 grills are closer to the shape of a modern 26

That is quite possibly the most beautiful (to me anyways) grill that I have ever seen. Can we get a shot of the vent?
A bunch of black kettles

I took a double take at first thinking it might be a 22 simply because of the shape - very cool!

Very cool grill!  Great shape too!
Kettle collector AND cooker!

Cool!  Do we think that the U pans switched to twist pans at the same time for all the sizes?

Actually they didn't. The 18 and 22s switched to twist style at the tail end of the metal lid handle era (about 1963). The 26"ers retained the U pans through the end of the thumbscrew era (1968  )..

wow.  that's awesome.  congrats on a real black beauty right there.

almost looks like super dark red in the pics.  (like oxblood)
I only use kettles with lid bales.
