The travels continue :)

Yaak River, North West Corner of Montana .

We stayed  at the site of Upper Ford Ranger Station built in 1926 and operated until 1946 , the current cabin was built then and is now used as a recreational rental for the forest service . The cabin doesn't offer power or running water but does have propane for cooking and the fridge . The cabin sits at a ford which miners used to cross the Yaak river to get to the Wild Horse Creek gold rush near Fort Steel in Canada. The area is remote and the cabin a classic in Forest Service workmanship.

I had a feeling I shouldn't read this while at work, crap! It's 110° outside here I am out in the sun working on top of hot ass hell asphalt and just was thinking how nice it would be to grill something up and also how much I need a vacation, then I read this. The way work looks I wont be able to get up to the woods till fall time. But hey thanks for the great scenery to look at and that cabin sounds like my idea of paradise!  Nice cook up also.
Looking for--- a yellow mbh any size, sequoia ( I know I am dreaming), avocado any size, brownie any size.

I can't believe how similar this looks to a spot we camp at about 3 hours East of Vancouver called Silver Creek. Almost looks like your spot could be just around the bend :)

Amazing photos, Ida.  I love the old forest service cabins.  I actually had a weird dream about moving to one last week.  no joke!

I trust that your dog got a nice cut of that steak.

Great spot to be - did you do any fishing?

These rentals I get are super affordable and that's the main reason we can afford to go , this one was $50 a night, the fire lookout I rented  was $35.00 , got another cabin for $20.00 a night . You have to bring bedding ( sleeping bags ) and clean when your done ,most include everything else , it's all on the honor system and the money helps preserve and restore other buildings , it's a cool thing

Everybody got some London Broil , even ole"  Black Butte Porter "

I took off early and caught several westies in the 8-10 inch range , up this high it's the headwaters of the Yaak , the bigger fish are down river due to shallower water .
