It is folded. I've tried to remove the badge from the grate and there is no problem to do so...

I would find it hard to believe this person who owned this originally did the work to the legs.  Unless he was a skilled metal worker.  It looks very well done.  I also find it interesting that the top handle two screws where rivets normally go, but the side handles have one screw in the middle.....maybe European grills in this era were different from the US?

…but seriously. I like my little "brownie" and would actually not easily give her up. One day I can see a wonderful SS-performer with a redhead-bowl (or a lime-bowl) in my fleet.

In point of the leg-theory: I've never seen this construct in Germany in the Weber-range in recent years. The first owner has changed nothing as he answered on demand.
The two pins that can be seen in the close-ups, somehow have no function. I have dismantled them, but it makes no difference.

Do the Europeans call Weber's "Copper Mist" (Brownie) Coconut, as you described in your original post? Check out "Copper Mist" in regards to American auto manufacturing paint colors. Don't ever give that away; you have a unique unit there.

This could perhaps be in the german market because of the word "mist". I know the english meaning, but in german it means "dunghill".
