Kinda hard to see the hands, though. Have you thought about painting them?

The lighting is kinda crap in the photo and they are visible from within the garage. Originally the hands were black and have been painted a dark red. I may experiment with a lighter color but I don't want it to take away from the stock look of the lid and handle. Slightly larger hands in a darker shade may also work... it's a bit of a work in progress.

Very cool idea!!
Hey, you have stucco on the ceiling of your garage??  Never seen that before.  ??? ???

Yeah, many houses around here have it. Thankfully it has yet to discolor or anything in 8+ years

Now we're talking!

Easily readable from anywhere in the garage.  8)

What do you think - vinyl decal numbers or just leave it? I'm leaning towards leaving it at this point...

Don't put numbers on it, I'm leaving it as is if this were mine.

However, if I had an extra Weber lid thermometer I'd cut the pin off and affix it to the top (12) with silicone or similar. I'm not going to drill into the lid to do it though.
This is a fairly cheap hobby when you consider the time  with family and friends and how many meals are created.

Looks great. Have you thought about white hands?

Agree with no numbers, but would position the vent at 12 o'clock. It's the Movado of Bar-B-Clocks!

I did but thought it might stand out too much and that the handle would disappear behind all the white. I sort of like how it takes a split second to realize it's a clock.

I had it that way at first but with the slight curvature to the lid and the clock being so high up on the wall it didn't quite look right.

Maybe if I added a thermo to both sides of the vent it would be a full fledged chrono-kettle  ;D

Here's a quick photoshop of the hands in white - looks ok but I'm real happy with it as-is!

Thanks for looking.

How about black with a silver pinstripe down the middle of each hand, or visa versa?  That way you could keep the black/silver theme going.
Kettle collector AND cooker!

Troy

AnakiMana

How about rib bones for hands? :-P
