Good size for a 26"

Not so good for a 22" (unless I trim the bricks.)

I have found the firebricks on one side provide surprisingly even heat across the rest of the grate. If I'm not careful, I knock them down. This should solve that problem. The material is pencil rod - ultra cheap 1/4" steel (intended for concrete work.)
kettles, smokers...

Great idea and mod Hank 8)
I thought you had cut down a rib rack when I first saw it
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Sweet!

You ever think about adding cross braces (on top of the two existing ones) to give a tad more support especially when placed in line with the charcoal grate like you have?

Nate

That's a great idea. I think I'm gonna make one of those.

That's what I thought when I looked at the picture. ;)

Yes. I thought about bending the ends of the 'legs' to cross the grate. It turned out that they extend past the cross pieces on the grate so it seems unnecessary.

Do it!

I'm a real fan of using firebrick for indirect cooks. It produces surprisingly even heat across the indirect portion of the grates - better IMO than the baskets. Here's the firebrick I use. http://www.menards.com/main/heating-cooling/stoves-add-on-furnaces/stove-accessories/vogelzang-6-pack-firebrick/p-1392272-c-6881.htm

Excellent design and implementation !

Pencil rod...I've used that stuff !
Very useful for odd-shaped forms.

OK...  This is one of those "why didn't I think of that?".   Wow, really great job Hank!  I'll be making a set of those for sure!
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

Hmmm.....
I wonder if you could take a pair of Hank's Brick Holders and place them opposed to one another...
This would clear out a nice space for stand-up chickens.

Yep, a pic of that should go into the brochure !

Another brochure pic would have a beer can bird sticking up through the gourmet grate center, corn on the cob up above cooking indirectly and some hors d' oeuvres roasting directly.
Money shot right there !
