26" Brownie Cleanup
« on: June 15, 2014, 05:36:18 AM »
Met up with G$ yesterday and picked up my 26" Brownie.

It's got a few bruises but don't we all after so many years.

A few pics.

The outside is polished up. Sitting with my BBQ Cabinet that I got from my folks house after their passing.

Gotta run to the store and pic up something to cook on it today for Father's day.

Suggestions?

That brownie looks nice. Wish I had on. My suggestion is tritip for your cook. That's what I'm cooking for tritip fajitas. 8)

Hail to the Chief!

Congratulations Rix! And great job agenting it G$! There's something about the copper mist grills, it is one of my favorite colors. I love my 26 Chief and use it often. I've also got a 22 and an 18 in that color. That matching cabinet is the icing on the cake! As for suggestions, how about a huge slab of ribs and some spatchcock chicken? Plenty of room to work with. It made me ignore my 22's for the first couple of weeks I had mine. ;D

Incidentally: if you come across one, a Happy Cooker internal ash pan works famously on the old 26"ers. It still leaves space between the pan and the daisy wheels.

Looks like it's Rib Eye's on the menu today. $5.88 lb on sale.

Everybody in my house loves Rib Eye, but who doesn't.

Ribs later this week. Also on sale at Fry's. Buy 1 get 2 free.

3 slabs of spares for $12.00. Hard to beat.

I wondered about that but wasn't sure if it worked on the 26".

I was actually gonna try and fab up an internal pan like that.

My skills are not good enough to make one of the external pans.

For now it's gonna be an oil drain pan sitting on the triangle.

Another method that works is only open 1 or 2 of the daisy wheels leaving 1 closed. I typically leave the "rear" one closed and the coals sit above that one and the air circulating between the lid vent and the two "front" daisys. It works great on the old 26"es especially since the daisys are angled  a little higher up the bowl than on a 22. Little to no ash blows out with this method. I haven't noticed a temperature drop either.
