It was well worth the 2 hour round trip get it.

Bloody right it was!!!  That looks beautiful.  Perhaps the most beautiful Kettle I have ever seen.  One of these days gonna git me one....damn that looks sweet.  Do enjoy and do use it I say.

Beauty of a score, my dream Weber.  I like the honor grills that you will be doing.  Remember to post pics of the first time.

How do you ever come to grips with cooking on something that nice?

Fantastic

And again.....The truth is Out There........... 8)

People do in fact put them together & then get distracted, usually by gas BBQ's.......

I have an "M" Brownie that was never cooked on, some storage rust, so no where near as nice as this, but these unused ones are in basements & such.....I can feel, it............  8)

WOW, really WOW, that is nice. You should use it and then put it away after a good cleaning!

Nice team work to let you know about it for $60.00

Wow, amazing score!  But I don't think I could bring myself to cook on a brand new Red MT.

What a Beaut.. I tip my hat to the Major for having the foresight to stow it away.
Would love to hear his story.  8)

I don't know if I'd use it or not. I certainly don't fault you for your decision, but there are so few mint examples out there, that it'd be hard to justify. I might consider swapping out the original components that can't be so easily cleaned (I.e. grates, H sweep) and keep those on hand... Cook on it with other parts. I dunno, maybe that sounds crazy.

Thanks again, Hatch, for grabbing this and sharing it with us.  This estate sale was actually fairly close to me, but I was unable to make it over on Saturday.  All morning, I was bummed about this thing getting away from the WKC, and I was elated to see that you got it.  So cool that the price was reasonable, and the kettle is so pristine.  (I'd have a hard time cooking on it the first time, and I'd have a hard time *not* cooking on it.  Do with it what you will, my man.)

So thanks for posting so many photos.  We need to plan up a DC-area meetup for this summer so we can see some of the great kettles that folks are rescuing.
