Check the full story of my encounter with the original Weber kettle. . There are lots more pics of the 1952 Original Weber in the gallery. Where else but the WKC will you see this?

It's official: the Summer of WKC has begun!

Thank you Marty.  Beautiful.  Superb work.  Great documentation.

Tell us more about how the bottom vent was cut in.  What were they able to tell you about that?
Kettle collector AND cooker!

Did not talk to anyone who knew anything about that. Looks like a modernish bowl section (with the little notches to catch the tabs on the vent) was grafted in at some point. I think the vent itself is original. Maybe it was rusted out? Or maybe it was a prototype of some kind that was used to experiment with. In any case, it's an interesting detail.

Superb  job. Like the last picture a lot with the measurements.

Very cool!  Nice to see the deets on that one.

i wonder why they left one cradle leg wonky?  Looks like all they would drill a properly aligned hole.  I'd sort that out.
Also, anyone else want that Stars and Stripes kettle?  That would be cool to have.

Great post, Marty. Please send our regards to your contacts there. Were you able to take a picture with the original kettle? If so, don't be shy. We would love to see it!

Well…OK

Although it's a 22.5, it feels more like a Jumbo Joe. I'd be cooking on my knees.

Nice!

By the way, 1952-Low-Angle-View-WM.jpg isn't loading.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Yeah - we know. If you click on it the picture should still come up. I'm not smart enough to troubleshoot, but Troy is on it. Glad you like it!

Craig

Great write up Marty! The pictures are outstanding! I cant get over how short the original is. George definitely had "The Traveler" in mind even right out of the gate. Thanks for sharing the dimensions too...

MartyG

Thanks Craig. And I ran into an old friend and we chance to take one more picture:
