M 1990 18" looking for info on correct parts
« on: August 03, 2018, 01:05:27 PM »
Doing a quick RRR on an M code red head 18.

Need sweeps and ash pan.
Are sweeps, just sweeps?  All years now the same?
Ash pan twist on?  Or clips?

Gotta start rolling spare change and order some handles also.
Previous owner somehow managed to torch the bowl handles pretty good.
They look like lump! >:(

Present day 18” ash sweeps work perfectly on 90’s 18” kettles.  Ash pan would be the clip-on type.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

Just cleaned up a M code red fade 18" and brewtownbeatdown is right on all points. How bad are the sweeps after hitting it with oil for three weeks she wasn't budging had to use a torch to move that rust, then four days in evapo-rust got her looking purty. Got pics?

Sweeps missing 2 wings the rest is rusted solid.
Good to know.
I'll order a set and pan from grill parts.
Got a couple of 22 pans laying around even
had a spare set of 22 sweeps. Don't come across
older 18's around here that often, let alone reds.
Get the little girl up and running in no time.
Thanks!

22” sweeps won’t work on a 18”.  Curve is wrong, so it won’t seal right.

That's why I said I would order a set and a pan from grill, parts. :'(
Not my first rodeo, though I'm not in your league by any means
I've been dealing with kettles for about 3 decades.
Unkowingly let a few jewels slip through my fingers
in the process! :-[  Including an 18 Woody my FIL
gave us when he couldn't grill anymore.
It was already pretty far gone.  Didn't know
anything about preserving them then.

Was the red 18 I messaged you about? Can't wait to see the before and after!
Together we'll fight the long defeat.

Gotcha.  The layout of your reply is weird🤪.  It’s like not putting in punctuation, so it’s open for interpretation.  Must be the computer to Tapatalk disconnect.

Nope.
I left a word out.
I should have said "set of sweeps"
Just finished ordering them, a pan and some other stuff.
Looking forward to cooking on it soon!
Thanks for the info.
