Potential source of grates for original styled 26" kettle
« on: November 20, 2016, 10:06:49 AM »
As many of you know, Weber does not carry replacement charcoal or cooking grates for the original style 26" kettles.  The replacement grates for the modern 26er are too large due to grate strap placement.

The owner of Qualitygrillparts.com currently is offering stainless steel charcoal baskets and 22" cooking grates.  I purchased one of the grates and it is very good quality.  The owner, who is a member here, wants to gauge the interest in grates for the 26er, both new and old style, to determine if a market exists.  Since there are no replacements for the older 26er and a good number of us have one (or more), I thought I'd post the link so we can let him know there is a market that Weber forgot.  He is also looking for interest in a larger charcoal basket for the 26ers and cooking grates for the modern version.

I know Grill Mark makes a 25" that fit the old 26ers. Here's a pic. I picked up a couple off of Amazon about a year ago.

I fear that I'm going to order a set of those sweet looking Charcoal Baskets and then never be satisfied with the regular ones on any of my other kettles.  That could become costly,  lol. Hmm,  which of the herd would get them? If it was only one pair probably the Grass Green Performer.
Next step? Go back to that link and place them on my Amazon wish list for my honey to see.

I would purchase a charcoal grate to replace the current expanded steel solution.

Also, the charcoal grate and cooking grate are a bit too close.
Maybe an extender ring to lift an even larger cooking grate up off the grill straps and away from the charcoal grate?

I have a few extra of the grillmark grates for the old style 26r's ... any random trades out there? 8)
