Need some advice
« on: May 07, 2016, 09:51:12 AM »
Hey Everyone,
I just got my Webber OTG about a month ago. I got a little over zealous in cleaning the inside. I took a paint scrapper and scrapped of the gunk on the inside of the kettle. I noticed later that I had scraped off some of the paint. I have cooked on my kettle again and now I notice some rust settling in on where the paint had been scraped off. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to fix this? I would really appreciate it. Don't be too hard on me, I already feel like a dumbass for already screwing up my new kettle grill. Thanks!

Spray it with PAM and get over it. Whatever you do - don't paint the INSIDE of your kettle! It will be fine.

About the only thing you can do is remove the surface rust and season it. Just coat it with oil and add heat.

Oil it. You see pics of gf's (grillfella) in here with chips on their kettles. No big deal. Character brother. You just made character.

First off, why are you scraping the insides of a 1 month old kettle?

I read it as him only getting the OTG a month ago, not that it was a one month old grill.

Would also explain why the paint came off; it was already rusty but hidden from grease. Paint won't come off by normal scraping. Or scrapping! :)
