Right on. I have read that Ace carries replacement cooking grates that fit your cooker....not Weber made and I don't recall the brand but someone will chime in soon. Standard flip grates for the 26er Weber now makes will not fit on the tabs of that cooker.

Grillmark. Does anyone know if the modern 26 grates will fit if you have an expanded metal ring to raise the old grates like I do?

I've been watching any discussion on this general topic since the Fleetwood.....I believe that if it's propped up high with the 3" or so ring, the new ones will fit OK.......that extra  height along with the curve accounts for the extra diameter.......

I'm doing this at some point fairly soon so I can be the guinea pig to find out for sure...... 8)

Good GET.  I've only cooked on a 26 once ( thanks to @MartyG and his sweet black flat top), but I swear I could hear angels singing the whole time.

Well done Scott!
Is there a thread on the EM ring mod for the 26er?
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

I remember this one from Duke.  Unfortunately, most of the pics have been removed.  However, the measurements are still there.

Thanks Mark that's the thread I was looking for
Has anyone else tried this mod? And if so did you use the old grate or get a new one?

Has anyone tried something along these lines with a new 26 grate right over the old one?  http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/trading-post/warming-rack-15508/msg153997/#msg153997

It's not just a grill, it's a WEBER

Nice score!  I have the same kettle in Brown. You can fit plenty in it. I use an elevated 22 inch grate on mine, can do plenty of wings / turds all in one hit.

I just pickup a '78 26r a few days ago.  When I measured the inside, the diameter at the rim was 26" the diameter at the grill support about 25".  GrillMark has a cooking grate that I'm told fits this older model.    SJ
