"The red porcelain in the bright red kettles had cadmium in it to get the bright red pigment. It's too costly to dispose of and bad for the environment. So we did not renew our contract with the company that handled the cadmium disposal" -MY former Weber rep about 13 years ago when I managed at THD.
The new red handles are on Amazon too. Here's something you don't see everyday...

That's all that matters, I think brick's alright, but prefer the crimson because it's brighter. Weber has been trying to look for ways to replace their signature red and all reds are going to be compared to the original and scrutinized whether it's brick, crimson, volcano or some other red they invent.

When going to ACE, my intent was to see a crimson in the wild and if they didn't have one, order one. That all changed when I saw the brick PP marked at $299. I'm new to the kettle game and never had an original of any color. I fall into the "glad to have choices other than black" category.
I hear ya, I actually prefer black to many colors these days. Some colors have to grow on me. Take the copper for example. A lot of people really like it, but I prefer black to it.
I like the crimson. I'll get one eventually.

Weber should make a crimson 26'r. I think it would look pretty nice.
Hell yeah. I'd buy one on the spot

I was pretty excited about Copper, based on the pics I saw online. But in person, the copper Performer Platinum I saw just didn't impress me. I wanted to like it... I just had to stare at it and ask myself "why don't you like it?"
I've got two black kettles now and that's it... they're handsome in their own rite, but...
What I'd REALLY like is:

Maybe I need to see the Copper outdoors to appreciate it...

Good taste Todd, I enjoy mine as well.
Color is in the eye of the Beholder.. The newest "Reds" are not really a true red.
The Q grills appear to be more red than anything else I have seen. I think the coating or paint is not the same as the porcelain on a Kettle.
I still don't get why we can;t get the euro colors over here.
Whatever makes your grilling experience a happy one!
Personally, I like my Two-Tone red.
Now don't get me stated on the euro accessories. Would love the Weber Pizza Oven. 8)

Oh, geez... I'd forgotten about that pizza oven! I know it's gonna be pricey, but please, if you're already manufacturing it, at least bring it to the US market! Give us a chance! lol
I know I've said this before, but I just REALLY do not get Weber. An American company, that makes a lot of products in the US, that it ONLY sells over seas.

In person the crimson is much duller than the brick red. 100% a matte or flat finish on the new ones. The brick red is glossy. I have a brick red performer and have personally seen the crimson OTG and performer. There really is no debate over the glossy vs matte finishes. Whether you like the colors is another story.

you are right.
I liked the brick red, but I also like the crimson.
I saw the crimson kettle next to the req Q at Ace Hardware and the colors are very similar. I think the difference comes from the material underneath, or possibly a ceramic additive on the kettle or something.
I like the brick red Mud, not completely enamored with the crimson. Maybe because it's too close in color to my brick red to justify the purchase. Now if crimson was the only one they ever made since the bright reds I may be singing another tune.
You know, I've seen some brick reds that looks more brown then red.
And I've seen other brick reds that are nice dark, rich, red color.
The crimson's I've seen were more matte than gloss - but not pure matte finish like a piece of paper or a gun metal gray.
They were also a nice vibrant red. I think weber is having consistency problems because some of the photos I've seen posted here looks really ugly and quite different than the ones I've seen in person.
This is a nice looking Crimson. I could go for this in a 26 model.

My red SS performer is dull- very close to the luster of the new crimson but it's a brighter red. This PP lid that I have is SUPER shiny, but the surface is orange peely. And this red bowl that i have- late 90's OT is smooth and moderately shiny. All have a similar bright red tone. Every kettle is unique even though Weber has made millions. Dull kettles need love too :P
What is PP? (that sounds funny)

In this case, patent pending. But could be Performer Platinum or pulled pork.
