IMHO: faded black.  Have never seen any light speckling in true gray kettles.  I've found a few parts kettles that have had that much fading, while being perfectly uniform

Black faded to Grey, however might be fading grey? That's a tough one. Craig says it's faded black to grey...what code is it?

It's worth a look. Ask the seller to dab some cooking oil on it.

Look at the lid handle.  To me it definitely looks like a second color (grey) was applied over the original black application. You see this on the handles of colored 18" MBH's.  There is dark black porcelain bleeding through the edges of the handle.  If it was a faded black, I don't think you would see this bleed through.

The light speckling (telltale sign) makes me think faded.  However, I'm gonna second guess myself, just because I've never noticed a clear reflection in a WW.  Could this be a Gray that is beginning it's fading?

First impression was it was a gray. I'm sticking with that.

True grey. The bowl and leg sockets are too uniform in grey to be faded black. Speckled lid( sign of fading ) is throwing us all off. First I thought miss matched MBH lid as I have seen plenty that look close to true grey, but the lid  handle strap tells me it is a single screw handle lid vs double rivet handle MBH. I am unaware of single screw black lid that is faded this much.

All in all, I never seen ash sweep kettle this faded. So, my guess is a true grey.

I'm guessing putting some cooking oil on it would provide an answer.

My buddy finally sent me these. He's not a Grillfella. Still 3 weeks until he comes up for hunting season.
M code so it's in the correct era. My SJG is an L code and SSP is an O code

The side shot shows were the porcelain has popped were the charcoal grate sits.

Congrats on your "new" Gray!

I'm thinking it's a grey WW. The colour seems to uniform to be a simple WW
