Wow! I've only read the rumors about the upcoming new MT with a hinged lid on another forum. And, there it is! Most likely, it will be available in Europe 1st!

So, you are right . I saw the new Master Touch with hinged lid on Spoga.  It looks like standart Master Touch, but only for the first view.  The lid hinge is quite massive, it works excelent.  The lid fits excelent on the kettle, no gaps between.

Ok. So here is what I dont like.  They have the vent at the back of the kettle, near the hinge. So, if you cook 2 zone, ( I do 99% of the time) you have your "cool zone" under the vent right? So you have your coal in the front of the grill. Now your reaching across the heat to get to your 2nd zone.

Good point.  Same goes for smoking... up and out. Vent needed to be in the front.

Looks super ugly to me!
Summit for the ,,ceramic" league- OK!
This Premium Mastertouch appears unnecessary to me.

I'm curious about how the price will be.

For the most people I know even the ,,normal" Mastertouch is to expensive.

For me a no go.
One of the facts I love most on the Weber kettles was the removable lid.
I always wonder why the hell some people install lid hinges.
You know what I mean?
You can't place the lid vent where you need it.

Just my 50cent

I agree with you Jan. Most of the US isn't paying more for the Master Touch now. Not sure they would pay more for this model as well. Around my area I see way more Char-Broil barrel cookers than Kettles in back yards anyway.

Well they are trying to innovate. Had to beat the already supreme basic kettle they have out. I'm sure they will sell as there's quite the "I have to have it" crowd here in the us.

The hinge seems like total overkill. I'd rather have the regular master touch lid bale so you can turn the lid / damper to anywhere you want it.

I've been friends with Jason (Unknown BBQ) for 10 years, maybe more. He has busted his ass working for the man for 10+ years, and now he is gone out on his own and doing it for his own company. You won't find a harder working USA loving sumbitch anywhere. He came up with the idea for the hinge, patented his killer design, and welds each one by hand. Crazy welding skills. Check out his other stuff too. All stainless steel, made by him, and the best quality you'll find. Sorry for going off topic but I love this guy like a brother. He represents what's right in our country.

I can be wrong but looking at the pics you can place the hinge there where the handle is located and v.v. This way the issue with the vent right above coals would be simply solved.
For me it's still a step in the right direction done by Weber and I like it.

Some side bar discussions of the Premium, my comments are.  The lid vent?  why not on the top like the summit, like the ranch, like the old One Touch premium?

I am sure the reason for the way it opens is for stability, with two legs in back and one in front if it opened back, like the summit it would be back heavy and fall.  What about really reinventing the thing, put two wheels on front, one on back and open back and not caddywampus style.  Just thoughts.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the defuser and want one ASAP.

For anyone who wants the short answer to what is going on with the hinge, it is a "Spring loaded removable Lid Hinge - allowing you to remove it to add a rotisserie."

Rotisserie ring could be used - you can take off the lid from the hinge. Without tools.  After then Rotisserie ring fits on the kettle

I guess the kettle is too expensive for Europe.
The most clowns are about to substitute their charcoal grill with a gas grill.
I guess it will not be a hit here.

Maybe I'm wrong but I was right with the 26.75" kettle here too.
It finally disappeared from the market.

I don't think anybody's mentioned this yet - if you look closely at the photograph of the cutaway display grill in that blog entry, in addition to the heat deflector, there's a WSM-style charcoal ring as well beneath it.  The impression I got is that Weber's trying to make this barbecue be all things like they did with the Summit charcoal grill.  Perhaps this is the low cost answer to that?
Title: Re: New Weber Master Touch Premium
Post by: Paul S on September 17, 2018, 08:08:00 AM
i like all the gadgets to utilize the majority of the grate for a low slow cook
the missing piece to make it great would be the atc port that the summit has. It'd be an all-in-one for me, I'd rather have a factory port than having to pierce the bowl myself. With no door to add coals/wood and seeing the full heat deflector I'd go for an atc, just load up the charcoal bin and no fumbling with vents on a kettle.

I'd gladly let go of my sns/drip-n-griddle, refurb'd premium performer, 18" and 22"(run down) kettles for an all in one. We don't feed a large get together that a 22" couldn't handle. We don't live on an estate and could reclaim much needed space in the garage area

they need to relocate the lid vent more towards the bowl's handle and add an atc port.
Don't think this would cook any differently than your standard 22" kettle buy yeah would like input on the cook using the heat deflector which looks to sit ontop of the charcoal ring

Until someone on this site actually gets their hands on one I am on the fence about this.  When the Summit was released I thought no way is anyone going to buy this thing and then a few members got them and wrote some great reviews and now a bunch of us own them.

I trust the guys on this site more than the marketing videos or a presentation from some store who just wants to move product.  We have a lot of experienced and knowledgeable members here who I trust a lot more.  And I value their opinions.    I would love to see this get in the hands of a member and hear their honest thoughts on it.

Matt ( Our friend in the Netherlands ) @vwengguy I'm sure you are up for the challenge to give this thing a test run and report back.    ;)

I want my lid removable to rotate it where I want, and the ability to drop it on the concrete to create that lovely rim rash...  :) Simple.

I recently picked up a used model you speak of, it doesn't require much attention and it still works great! that's one of the good things about it. Others being, no one will walk off with it nor would we hurt much if left down at the beach. It's not a collector type kettle, your standard basic black model but it's very durable. Not having to worry bout bowl/lid dents, chipped paint, bent crimped legs(it still stands quite well), etc.. It's is what it is, it does the job.
Just cook, eat and have fun.

I'm not sure this is in any way better. The lid vent is definately in the wrong place for indirect cooking, which is the majority of what I do on the larger grills....

And let's face it, knockoffs have done hinged lids now for the last couple of decades, and I have yet to see one that impressed me all that much. The hanger arragement works, don't mess with it.

If you take the hinge off to use a roti then how do you pick up the lid. Does that handle-ish looking thing above the hinge serve as a second handle? Is so, then picking it up is a two handed operation every time.

I love to play with gadgets! The charcoal chamber ring and heat diffuser idea could keep me entertained for a while. I might make make something in the shop to try out.
The hinge system solves a problem that wasn't there, in my opinion.
The "P shaped" bottom vents might be the real big news with this kettle. I wonder if this design change will make temperature control easier.

The heat diffuser feature is a great idea and should work great at lower temperatures such as 250F and below.  It will not work very well for hot n fast smoking at 275-325F. The heat diffuser being so thin and so close to the charcoal grate will get too hot and start smoking at higher temperature from the oily drippings.

So we make fire in new Master Touch. By us is called Master Touch GBS SE E-5775 .  The new diffuser is OK, but it is still only single-side kettle.  The charcoal Summit is realy different :)  See  some pictures

I think they could've done without that handle and hinge. The lid and bale design works for me, also would've given better versatility for 2 zone cooking. They could've saved some money without designing the new hinge and handle to offer better price.

The people at Weber obviously don't cook on these things. Or they sure don't cook like I do. Make some retro twist ash pans and sell the heck out of them as an accessory. How about some black replacement handles like on the limited red for folks to use on their older kettles. I got enough kettles and don't need more gizmos. I smoke two zone so don't need no diffuser. Bring the China facility up to quality and produce some beautiful yellow, blue, brownie kettles. Without all the add-on junk to jack up the price.

Besides that I would re-drill the lid and swap hinge and handle. Figure something out to use or plug the extra holes. Use it and not collect in original condition.

Oh, and the handle. There goes the theory of Weber trying to keep us safe. Better to have fire at back. That short handle next to the fire?

What if you did a two zone with the vent over the fire? Would it smoke good? Have to try it on one of my oldies. Maybe Weber does cook on em.

Or, put a charbasket on opposite side so vent and therm. are 45 degree each side. Might be a good cooker if you really are sold on the hinge.

Take a look at the assembly guide for the 5775, the drawings in the PDF are the most detailed pics I'v seen of the hinge. It looks like it'll fit with a little bit of bending to the mount.

The so-called "igrill bracket" doesn't seem like a very good design.
To me, it looks like it holds your beer too close to the grill.
Your beer will get warm too quickly unless you are a really fast drinker.

As I already mentioned in a different thread I'm not sure people will buy it especially here in Europe.
People tend to switch to gas nowadays and a 399€ ($450)charcoal grill is not the right answer to that trend. (My opinion)

AND it's ugly as hell! :-)

I'll be completely honest it was a bitch to build. The legs seemed a little big for the bowl holes. Little metal shavings came off when inserting them. Also my weber badge/thermometer surround came with gouges in the "chrome". Also the new hinge assembly requires you to adjust the screws and plate so the lid fits properly. Looking forward to getting my cook on tomorrow. Will post some pics then.

Here you go.
Had to adjust the lid as it was letting air in between the bowl and lid. Burned for hours lol. After readjusting the hinge placement seems to be better. Least I could put out the fire tonight. Seems to run hot had the vents at bottom set to smoke and top vent closed and cruised at 400f. Albeit the new diffuser plate wasn't in. If you Want to see anything specific name it and I'll send pics

Top vent closed and cooked at 400?  That doesn't sound like the lid is seated well maybe?

However you say you could shut the grill down?

A normal Weber kettle should shut down within 20 minutes with all vents closed.

Is it possible to completely close the new "P" shaped bottom vents? I like to cook 2 zone with one Weber Char-basket of lit coals. I rotate the cooking grate if I want to switch between sear and indirect. Even with only one basket of coals going sometimes the bottom vent is closed or barely cracked open. I would think completely closed would be necessary to extinguish coals.

It looks that there are not so many fans of the new MT. I'm sticking however to what I wrote.
So - for some people seems to be difficult to assemble the cover to the hinge. The Weber started to get some special instructions into the box with MT. Is needed realy to read the assembly instruction - see https://www.grilykrby.cz/otazky-a-odpovedi/navod-jak-pridelat-pant-na-gril-weber-master-touch-gbs-premium-se-e-5775 (https://www.grilykrby.cz/otazky-a-odpovedi/navod-jak-pridelat-pant-na-gril-weber-master-touch-gbs-premium-se-e-5775)

any thoughts and recommendations from people with hands on experience with both? with the gas grill i have i am not really interested on the two zone set up and i plan to do some extreme searing with the charcoal starter chimney - i want the kettle mostly for smoking

Hi all -- I'm really interested in getting my hands on the charcoal ring and diffuser plate to try in my US-market Performer.

Anyone happen to have part numbers or any success finding a way to get those two pieces separately into the USA?

I tried calling Weber USA and they were basically useless. They told me they couldn't even see parts for any UK/EU market models in their system, and the person had never heard of the Master Touch Premium / E-5775 existing before my call. The person also told me something along the lines of, "y'know, the laws are different in different markets, so I bet that's it." C'mon, man, we're talking about a miniature version of the WSM ring. Laws don't enter into it.

Anyways, if anyone has any luck ordering these two parts, please let me know! I love my SnS but I see all these big beautiful 18-20lbs prime briskets at Costco and they just don't fit in the kettle that way. Would like to give this new Weber design a shot to see if it works. Thanks!

I'll makes some calls this week but the last time I asked about it... the ring and the plate were NOT being sold as separate items as of yet here in Europe .
I know it sucks but it is how they work here.
In the meantime here is quick video I did awhile ago when someone asked for more info on the ring size.

Anyways, if anyone has any luck ordering these two parts, please let me know! I love my SnS but I see all these big beautiful 18-20lbs prime briskets at Costco and they just don't fit in the kettle that way. Would like to give this new Weber design a shot to see if it works. Thanks!

You can cook a brisket without any gadgets. There are plenty of different ways.

@HoosierKettle I agree 100% !
But I have to deal with what equipment  Weber sponsors me with
Beggars can't be choosers.. but I can give my opinion on what I get.. and I agree with you... you don't NEED all the new bells and whistles ... but some of it does help the common everyday cook.
Back to the brisket... if you are trying to cook a 30 lb brisket.... you need a 26" kettle! Ja I love my S'nS Plus but it does limit the total usable cooking grate real estate ... Ja the snake fixes this problem showing that you don't always need ALL of that stuff.. just Some of it! Or just a bigger grill.

I liked the comparison video. Thanks for sharing. I like the P vent concept. Maybe it will make its way to the rest of the kettle line up.

Here in Europe we can get the "Standard" MT line also with the P vents... I would love to pick up a new 2019 Smoke Grey MT with the P vents... to keep my 2015 Smoke Grey company   I don't need it.. just want it.

Indeed, I've cooked my fair share, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to try the latest accessory from Weber.
