How many 18" grills can we keep out of the dump & scrap pile in 2018?
I'm trying to rescue this one today.

Outstanding quest for 2018 !! Appropriately, this should be the year of the 18" kettle ... I'm in !! :D
Good luck, HFG.
When it comes to 18s vs 22s, which tends to be the "choice" for most people?
Holy Grails: anything 1970
I prefer 22s. I do have a vintage 18 . Maybe I'm just more used to cooking on 22s and know what to expect . Even though I know you can do anything with both .

Most would prefer the 22" grills. But myself, I'm really starting to like the 18". It's a perfect size for my wife & myself. Having said that, I have 16 Smokey Joes, 8 22"'s, and 4 18's so far. What do I know? Looking to get another 18" and 2 more 22's shortly.
Did my share, saved four of the five 18's I have in 2017. Only colored grills are on my list.

18's are our main cookers , just 2 of us . very economical little cookers only beaten by my jumbo joe which i find does a slightly better job at searing steaks and chops .

Looks to be in decent shape! That's gonna be real purdy when it's all cleaned up! What code is it?
It is in great shape. Its AA, I was hoping it was a DD...
A grill is a grill is a grill...but a Weber grill is a real grill.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G928A using Weber Kettle Club mobile app (http://r.tapatalk.com/byo?rid=91018)
This is a blue 18" I picked up a couple of weeks ago. It was listed for $20 on CL. Once I got to the sellers house, found the bowl to be totally roached out. Holes everywhere. Leg sockets holes, grate strap holes and holes for no reason. Pointed all the holes out and started to leave. Seller felt so bad, he told me to take it for free as I might be able to use some parts off of it. Getting it home, I found the each leg socket had only one tab still attached to the bowl. Mainly the triangle assembly is what kept it all together. Once I took the wheels off, all the legs collapsed. The legs, triangle and wheels are going to
@jdorn for his project yellow, the bowl will end up being a succulent planter and the lid will become a custom pizza lid (inspired by
@dazzo ).

2018 is the year of the 18" kettle !! That is pretty much all that I am searching for this year.
Well, this one is epic, IMO. At least here in Canada.
100% of the credit goes to
@greenweb for this rescue.
I sent him the link for the ad, and let him do the rest. He did not disappoint.
If he chose to keep this, I would have been completely fine with that.
However, he is well aware of my quest for 18 in 18 ... We did the exchange today.
This beauty has been used and abused, but in fine Weber kettle fashion ... Still has many, many years of life left in her.

Sent from my iPhone using Weber Kettle Club (https://siteowners.tapatalk.com/byo/displayAndDownloadByoApp?rid=91018)
I rescued a few 18s, This OTG Blue was the saddest, the backside handle was melted/warped the inside was trashed had to replace both grates and the lid vent is loose i just need to drill out the rivet and replace it. This was the first true OTG that i had seen in the wild
(https://i.imgur.com/QcBpxZql.jpg)
Most hard won is this thumbscrew Redhead, from the time i sent a text and agreement was reached the owner received numerous emails to buy it and ship it for more than double what it was advertised for.
And the twins, i added the OTG ash pans as i like them much better.
18s are very versatile when you add a third grate and for some reason the pictures i had on Photobucket are screwed up :( because they showed everything loaded up!
Here is my first 18",and my first Red Head! It was a 3 hour round trip, but I couldn't say no! From what I can tell, it's a '75 or' 76. Lots of chips and some rust on the bowl, but I'm planning on tackling that this weekend. I have been wanting a red head and a mbh for a while, and this covers both! Quick question, what does everyone put on the rust spots? I'm going to wire wheel them clean, but do I just rub it with canola oil?

Have a great 2019!
To add to the list, this 18 was rescued from my neighbor's trash, I had posted the rescue in a separate thread. It cleaned up nicely. I added a Craycort grate, SnS, tool rack and made the custom handles for it. It's a fun grill to cook on.

At this time last year I had no 18s. Now, I have 8, I think. The only ones I consider rescues were those I posted here, from the "landfill".
I hadn't made it to this post but unknowingly participated.
One early 70s 2 late 70s and one ez. The wood handles ones held up nicely.
I also picked up a new one during season end for $18 opened box but complete.
All in all I spent $5 for one of the pre codes plus the $18 on the new one so $23 for 5 18"ers
