even being a lions one that thing is awesome. and no I don't know the back story. I just know they did the sjs in like 97-98
1995, NFL and Weber partnered to promote the NFL smokey joes (I have a Lions joe too), at each teams home opener game they put on a BBQ competition, each contestant cooked on a Master-touch with the team logo and every contestant was able to take one home. I was told by Weber that they made 8 to 10 per team.
I purchased mine in Nov 2013 from the son of the lady who was a contestant, she worked for the Pontiac Silverdome, the home of the Lions at the time. I was put in storage for 18 years until he sold it to me.
It made an appearance at the chicago meetup last year and Bear and Packer fans were not nice at all.
