Title: My Weberrific weekend.
Post by: Mr.CPHo on January 30, 2017, 07:11:01 AM
Not sure if Weberrific is a word, but just roll with it, ok?
This box had been sitting in my garage all week, and after accounting for all the contents, I deliberately left it in this state until I had time over the weekend to really give it my undivided attention.  It was quite an exercise in restraint, let me tell you.

I'll admit my Weberitis is pretty bad since I plan what little free time I have left in the week around grills; whether it's cooking on them, cleaning them, or acquiring them.  My wife calls it my affair... which is a pretty fair assessment.  So here's the newest addition to the harem, a 76'/77' black MBH in really great shape.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/8e0d7bc862735f36b5532b0370eaa261.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/123c828604423dc0919dc7ef413be5af.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/cec3ec55f3b6a5e45f0bb9114fa89a43.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/b3537bbcdb9ffd7167a47c18f5413364.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/413547fd410cd790aa9d20960ff18055.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/dfb31d42d3d34782312566790f9ba802.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/769d378624eb86c172be35b3d6c0b54e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/24e06b632e3419b97129b07220366f33.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/67cdef98c3287fc18f6064f90e891f66.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/d86def7eb653a8266b6d67cb96ee2e7d.jpg)
If you've never tried using an automotive clay bar, I recommend it.  The following pics start with a freshly wiped lid, and you'll see how much crap the clay bar pulls off the surface.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/a0a5a3772338a54516967d3c58823b32.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/919d4238c92552c3dccf3b5535eada53.jpg)That's just half the lid, the other half:(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/9f814c71f56f977770ed0585ecb4c0ec.jpg)And then I discovered I was using Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish all wrong; the terry towel to apply really made a difference (I think I incorrectly used microfiber before).(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/f840454d76ef345cfc22b1020d5cc14a.jpg)So friggin effective I could see my reflection in the rivet.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/1b72bc46551f124bad720ea8ae0401cd.jpg)Socializing.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/4e8ee903ac1fbef59ab93b467edc98e8.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/8af0b8597a8d236f85fc79596f48576b.jpg)The peel.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/a2f87e0b10378961b6523894b5c96582.jpg)Got to work on the ash pan after letting it soak overnight.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/ecbe657714bbba589ac07d17ea496042.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/4f01c77eae47448b982ec5e550358d6c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/a44cdd973aa33c4e814c5c42c5d6e9f7.jpg)
Not quite finished, but as you can see it's in really good shape and still very dark black.  Quite a stark contrast to the few really cool faded MBHs that have popped up recently.
It was also a Weberrific weekend because I successfully added a lid bale to my blue 22" OTG Midget, and I didn't fuck anything up, whoa... amazing.  When I applied the midget mod to this "L" code, I used two pairs of 8" wheels, and the only drawback was the lid hanging by the hook always came into contact with the wheels.  No bueno.  You can sort of see how the lid precariously touches the over-sized wheels in the back.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/ade253de9d0b1d2b3fd8901db78a2be9.jpg)I was finally able to salvage the lid bale parts from a donor and apply the solution here.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/bad4987a07e316150df31b4d1f210ce3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/7494e983f8e6eb1bd80296c41744d8c1.jpg)
The last part of my Weberrific weekend was the tastiest, ribs for Sunday dinner!! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/d0dde558ea0a20c873914d50eafab622.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/d4fb1599210a6171032ced63f12fdb21.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170130/78e33d646d018c3a3b1fade73a19473a.jpg)
Well, hope you all had a grate weekend too, thanks for looking.

YES!  YES!  YES!!!!!!!!!  Great on all levels....write up, cleanup, midget lid fix.  Very well done!!!!!  I wondering, could you reverse the inner wheels on the midget so the fancier side is visible?

AWESOME job on your black!! Looks beautiful. And I've been in love with that midget for a while now, but with that bail set-up, DAMN, and I thought I was done looking for kettles...LOL

Hm, I couldn't with the 6" wheels, but maybe I could with the 8" wheels... hmmmm

I soaked the ash pan in warm soapy water overnight, used steel wool in the morning, and then Mothers polish (I'm an idiot for never reading instructions).
