Looks great. Is it faded or just dusty?  That vent rivet looks to shiny for it to have been an outside grill.

It's faded. I just used 0000 steel wool on it. It's super clean with light rust on the leg sockets

Could it be possible the faded black is a color since the rivet is clean???

Definitely started out as a black kettle.  I wonder if Weber used aluminum rivets for a period of time? Maybe it was left on a porch where the sun hit it but it wasn't subject to rain?  Who knows.   Either way, it's a great looking kettle with lots of years left!

"Semi" faded black. Haha
It's not new black that's for sure

Semi faded or not, it is one of the nicest black MBH I have seen.  IMO, It is that Gray tint ( fade ) and orange peel that gives off character only unique to this color MBH.

@speedster  going by the pics, it didn't sit out for too long. That kettle is in great condition. A little urethane on the handle, flip the triangle over and shine her up. You got a great mbh there. Thing looks pristine. Doesn't look like it got used much at all.

Great work on this one.
I'm with @Travis on the handle... a little sand paper and some spare varnish goes a long way on these handles. Here is one that I just did (Click (http://pics.weberkettleclub.com/images/2017/01/30/HandleRefinishing.jpg)).
