I will do a proper blog write up and review this week but in the meantime here are the unboxing shots of the SCG!
Note the included ATC port! Just beside the burner tube (capped) - I really hope this ties into that Weber wifi app/system but who knows... 8)

Looks great!
Looks beautiful

Awesome pics! I never saw anything so far about a hole for an ATC. I was kind of wondering if there was something for one or if the ATC makers were going to have to redesign adapter plates!
Thanks for sharing. One question
@SixZeroFour how does the bowl attach or does it just sit there? I ask because I forsee an idea forming!
Oh Myyyyyyyy!! Congrats very jealous. First cook burgers and hot links?
So sweet
Think the next model has the tech built in ?

Thanks for all the pics. 6
Very nice!
I know I'm the very small minority but I wish there were a model that didn't have gas assist. I never use mine on my performers.
Also at that price tag I'm not sure if I'll ever get one.

Nice - the tripod looks very stable. Kind of like taking the ranch frame and triangulating it!
That is a fine grill...The wife is already not happy with me from my latest copper purchase. See profile photo. With my current 4 Weber's I am facing an uphill battle to justify but my goodness I would love to have a Summit Charcoal!!!
That rig looks seriously badass. Nothing compliments black like chrome and this one's got it.
Thanks for our nerd pix, Six. So many questions.
Wondering how you both sear and then cook at a lower temp ... somewhere, while food is on, you have to remove the cook grate and basically remove the cook grate to move it into the upper or lower position. That seems like it'd be annoying. Overall, I'm concerned that heat is controlled from more of a farther away/nearer food heat source and the ability to create heat zones is diminished.
I know AmazingRibs said that's not an issue here. The example they gave was doing steaks with the grate up top ... OK, but the impression I'm getting here is charcoal grate stays up for grilling, down for smoking because getting higher heat with the grate always low might be an issue.
I see Weber supplies the charcoal holders. Are they suggesting lighting with them and not a chimney? Just wondering, since lighting charcoal with charcoal already loaded into the machine seems to be the intention.
Wondering about the front wheel height. Surely it's more than 2", otherwise legions of Genesis and SSP owners will be clamoring for the first decent 2" locking wheel.
Wondering if the cooking grate would work for a flat top 26. Seems really close! Also, what diameter is the charcoal grate, alone and with the ring?
I like that the lid vent is once again riveted where it spins. I had visions of them bolting it together and that IMO sucks.
I want that starter setup on my SSP.

If your experience is like mine, anything that's
regularly used is supported. (Women can be annoyingly practical in that way.) If you could do *anything* you needed on a Summit Charcoal, ditch a few you have. Like all but one.
Is the outer diameter of the SCG the same as the 26"? It sure seems close. That would be sweet if I could drop my 26 into one of those tripods.
Amazing! Thanks for documenting this
Awesome Sir...can't wait to see a first cook from a true Kettle head

thanks for the pics. It looks cool.
Nice that they did it in Raiders Silver & Black. ;D
Great pics! I can't wait to see the first cook pics.
Thanks for sharing these assembly pics, Matt! Can't wait to see it in action. That pre taco handle 26er next to it isn't bad either.
604 ... A special thank you for keeping us KettleHead's up-to-speed on the new "tech". Great pic's. SJ

My interpretation here is that Weber wants to showcase charcoal as a standalone solution similar to gas grills. Dump charcoal in, turn it on. We know there's more to it than that but that's the gist I think. But it would be interesting if the street price on one like this sans gas assist could be say, $1000. Just not sure the burner + box hanging off the side would cost $500 by itself.
What
I'd like to see is a dedicated charcoal starter machine. Essentially it would be the standalone setup Weber uses in their restaurants, a rectangular frame for say, 2 chimneys with ash collection below the burner. Think turkey fryer burner stand but taller and adapted for this. I'd pay a few hundred for that because it could be used for any machine and would be more convenient than setting a chimney down into a kettle. Even better if it doubles as a "side burner/camp stove".
Seriously, one cool cooker. Thanks for the assembly pics bro.
Very nice, looks like serious business!
Simply bad ass. Seeing that baby up against The Hedge makes me want one bad....Kevin Kolman posting cooks on facebook isn't helping either. And I had convinced myself I didn't want/need one of those. Shit.

Who? What? Where?
I got the chance to look at one up close today.
It's definitely a great looking grill and I am looking forward to seeing the reputation for it grow as more people get their hands on one.
The good news is, my suspicions have been confirmed on a few things.
The outer bowl lower section is a 26.75" kettle.
So give them a year or so to distribute the new product, and I bet we can start getting that nice looking tripod as a spare part from Weber.
It might be too much to hope that they offer a "retrofit" kit for 26s, but it certainly looks like a possibility that we can eventually see a "Genesis" or "Spirit" version of this grill eventually.

Looks really, really good. In fact, maybe a little too good . . .
Time to get it dirty ! !

Man Matt, looks great!
Thanks for showing this one off, it was almost like I got to in pack it myself

Neat. So, you measured it? Not having to cut up a Ranch frame would be nice, but I'd wager a 26er's handles would get in the way? One of my 26's has 2 weak side handles, so maybe that's a good thing.
Yes, I measured it. Definitely would require some minor modification in order to work.

Do worry, I'm sure you could grow a hedge too. 😄

Settled, I will hold out for next year's 26er hoping for the "KEY HOLE" intake(s) & some color...
How does the cooking grate compare to a standard 26.75" grate?
Not sure if it was mentioned but what really catches my eye is the design of the air inlets
on the bottom. This is my first time seeing this design. Looks like it would provide superior
temp control over the standard three slots. Am I missing something or is this a new
layout?

It's new. There's also a new corresponding position marked on the ring for a "smoke" setting.
HOW in the hell were you able to stop assembly to take pics???? I would be going crazy until it was all put together!!! Congrats and it Looks Great!!!!

It's smaller by about 2" due to the inner liner for the air insulation.

And that's why I'm hoping it's very close to the size of a flat top 26er's cook grate. :) I'd freak at being able to buy an SS Gourmet grate for mine. Just need the measurements confirmed. I've already forgotten the numbers for both but thought it was like within 1/4", and I'll hack the support tabs with small extensions if that's what it takes.
Assuming ereplacements offers it next year, 'cause there ain't no way Weber would sell me one directly.
Post the measurements of your flat top 26, I'll measure the SCG grill grate next time I go. Unless @SixZeroFour beats me to it.
My flat top 26's grill grate measures 24 13/16", or just a hair over 24 3/4".
The maximum allowable space in the bowl while still sitting on the straps appears to be just under 25", and the discontinued GrillMark 25" was just under 25", which is why it was a good flat top fit. The Craycort is 25", so a tight but doable (and available) fit, but CI isn't my first choice.
I've read that the SCG's cook grate is somewhere between 24" and 24.5". Either could be made to work, but I hope it's 24.5" obviously.
I'll grab an exact measurement for you shortly here ATS. The SS gourmet Grate is really nice

I also have a few of the Grillmate grates if you're in need and can't make the new one work.
@addicted-to-smoke 24" on the new one

Do you mean the GrillMark 25" or some GrillGrates?
If it's the latter, is it the RWEB26.75 kit (four 20" x 5.25" pieces, "fits 90%" of presumably the current 26?) ... http://www.grillgrate.com/grillgrates-for-the-26-75-weber-kettle/
They are the GrillMarks that fit the old 26rs...

That looks like a sweet grill have you had a chance to grill on it yet did you win the one they gave away on the 6&7th give away or you buy this one ? I'm curious if any shops in the Seattle area have any in the showrooms yet?
That is beautiful. Love the chrome.
