To all of you that have been asking about Chicago meet-up III...we have selected a tentative date. It would be Saturday, July 18th at Brian's house,
@zavod44 . Last year was a successful get together with his ideal back yard with an abundance of vintage grills already in place.
Anyone who would like to make the trip is welcome. You'll be sure to have a great time, have great food, and be in the presence of MANY historic Weber grills. Everyone is welcome to bring grills with them for display or to cook on. The more the better as there will be lots of photos worth taking. If you would like to make your favorite dish or appetizer on the grill...that always makes for a great time and to try different foods!
Stay tuned for further details and if you have any questions, feel free to contact Brian or myself!
The following is the most up to date list of members attending and dishes they will be bringing. I will update this as it changes. Feel free to bring some friends of yours if you like that might like to be exposed to Weberitis! Lets try and have everyone bring a favorite grill of yours (if you have room for it). We'll do some type of photo collection for everyone with their grill.
Start time will be anytime from noon till whenever.
Brian's address is as follows
1266 Sycamore St
Elgin, Illinois 60123

I was born in Chicago and raised up in Park Ridge in the 50's/60's. Can't make that time frame but will be in Woodstock, IL Labor Day weekend on my way through. Have a great time and I'll try to make next year!!
Dammit! I have a bachelor party that day Saturday July 18th. I missed the last meet up too because of work travel. The gods are against me!!
Confirmed we will be there, put it in pen.
I really want to make that but we are on vacation.

that sucks. Its a great time.
Not sure if I'm coming or not...
MacEggs and I are coming.
Thanks to all who have confirmed or mentioned their intentions to try and make it. This will be helpful to get an approximate head count for the big day!

I'm planning on being there. The problem is, I have my 15 year old daughter that weekend (I'm divorced and only get my daughter every other weekend) and she's recently been complaining that I have a problem with Weber kettles. I can't tell you how many times I have dragged her around chasing kettles. Her and my girlfriend have been talking intervention. I'm kind of afraid to tell her there's a WKC meetup that weekend. There is no way she will want to go hang out with a bunch of "weirdo's". I'll figure something out.
Being her with. She can hang out with my wife and they can complain to each other!!!
It could be worse. You could collect Barbies or some other crazy stuff.

Weberitis has bit many of us. Explain to her you're not alone...better yet, show her! Bring her with like Chefn58 said. There will be good food to go around.
I'm going to try to make it down! Any idea what the time frame might be? I'd probably have to be home for something that night, but could spend the day.

Most likely a start around noon. Details will follow.
My wife will be attending also, so add a "+1" to me please.
I'm gonna try and make it too. It'll be nice to meet everyone and like Jeff said, "It'll be nice to put a face with the names".

The Chicago meet is less than 2 weeks away. If you were tentative, or thinking about coming, we are hoping you'll be able to attend. Please chime in and I'll have the list updated. Weather has been wet in our area for the last 6 weeks. Hoping the law of averages is ready to change that to dry and warm!

Almost everything will be available, Seville, Wood Dales, 26ers almost everything I have will be ready to cook on. I might even have a few things for sale, gotta go through the pile out back and see what I can part with.....
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

For those of you planning on attending, feel free to let us know if you plan to make a dish. If so, what will it be? We want to make sure we don't have duplicates. There will be plenty of grills to cook on, but feel free to bring your own kettle to show off and display as well!
Is there a time frame for the get together??? I have a graduation party to attend mid to late afternoon but I'd still like to stop by and meet, greet and EAT. I'm planning on making an appetizer or 2. Bacon wrapped stuffed mushrooms and I'm still undecided on the other one.

I think 2 at the earliest to eat is most likely. It would be fine to make something after you get there and get settled in. We'll have grills going all afternoon most likely! Come with an empty stomach of course. Bring some grills to show of Dustin!
I'm happy to be able to add Cindy and me to the list. Do we have specifics yet? If so, can those be added to the first post so we don't have to search page after page of this thread. ;)
Are we doing anything to organize food? I can think of a few things I'd like to make that I think others would enjoy. (I've been putting my burger press to good use lately and who doesn't like a good burger?) Smoked brats would be pretty good too.
@HankB All done Hank.
Check the original post on the first page for the most up to date info.
As far as food organization...we are updating the list as people volunteer dishes they will be bringing. Burgers and or brats are always a great idea.

Lets hope for dry weather. That's the most important part. We have been saturated in our area since late May - early June. Brian has an awesome deck, yard, and covered seating area that is perfect for large gatherings. He's got a big pool too! Might need it if its going to be as hot as the forecast says!
SO I told the wife one of the necessaries is that we go and eat at a Weber Grills Restaurant. I have been to Chicago before and eaten at various location like Michael Jordon's place, what should I know about eating @ Weber Grills. we plan to go to the one on the north side in Schaumburg.
Talk to me, are there any weber storefront locations that I can go to (like a kid in a candy store).

@chefn58
@Jeff @LightningBoldtz Storefront locations...No. There is the one downtown that is extremely busy. One out in Lombard, Il, a southwest suburb and the one in Schaumburg that you mentioned.
Schaumburg and Lombard are both nice restaurants. Lombard has a few more vintage grills than the Schaumburg one, but nothing as nice as you'll see on Saturday.
If you go to the one in Schaumburg you may be able to get a tour of the place. I think we may know someone there.....

Shoestringshop and wife will be there. Sliders and some salad.
With Shoestringshop bringing sliders that helps me get off the fence (burgers or brats.) Brats it is then! Maybe I'll demo my technique for leg quarters on the 26 since they're on sale for 39¢/lb.
@LightningBoldtz are you looking for a well stocked ACE or hardware store? I guess that would be a storefront location.....Is that what you mean?

@zavod44 I was wondering if they had any Weber storefronts in the area but a well stocked Ace would also do..
Maybe some of the guys in the area know of some. There is no Weber retail stores. There is an Ace up in Libertyville that has a lot of stuff, I dint think you'll be in that area thought. Does anyone know of a hardware store that has a huge selection?
The Ace Hardware in the town of Addison on Lake St and Addison Rd is MASSIVE
thanks guys
The newly expanded parts counter at Weber HQ is open from 9 to Noon on Saturday. It's 27.2 miles from Brian's house. 200 E Daniels Rd, Palatine, IL 60067.
Last time I stopped in I bought three warming racks for $10 each! One will be given away at the meetup. They have all kind of cool stuff you won't see anywhere else! It's basically a Weber only retail playground!
Looks like you guys are gonna have to put up with a bloody Canadian after all. I work till 1pm tomorrow and will be heading down after that. Probably be near the meetup looking for a hotel around 9pm.

Anyone that's planning on attending on Saturday, that may have been on the fence whether or not to make food...let's decide. I'd like to have all food options posted by Friday evening. Also, the forecast is to be pretty hot on Saturday. Any extra bags of ice wouldn't go to waste. Water bottles are probably a good idea too.
Hope to see you all there.

I would like to inform that my Detroit Lions grill will not be making the trip, do to other obligations I am afraid there will not be room for it. Plus there is a huge risk to bringing anything with a Lions logo on it in Bear country....... :)

....and this is our friend on the left with the pile of giant chicken wings?
I recognise some of the folks......some not..... :-[
The first ever international meetup was a huge success! Jeff was right about the heat, and the storm was actually impressive. A few of us had to hold the tents down, but were ready to throw our bodies over our favorite vintage kettles at any moment. My pics will come later, and I finally was able to take some beauty shots of Brian's collection. Well, part of it anyway. :) Great food and great company. Meet ups are always amazing. Thanks to Brain and Jenny for all the hospitality.
Some of the questions answered at this meetup:
How may lit chimneys will fit on a mothership?
Will Hoss take home more kettles than he came with?
Will Anyone eat one of those imported pickled eggs?
Do jalapeño brats taste as good as chorizo brats?
OMG, who made the skirt steak skewers?
Did anyone count the number of kettles on display?
How many cart-type kettles made the event? (Very likely more than have ever been together in one place, and not an SS in sight!)
Answers to these and many more questions to come. Many more photos on the way, but we'll space them out so you don't OD too soon.

Yup, aka: Dustin. The guy on the right is Scott Z. Other people-name holes will be patched as more photos emerge.
@Troy if Dustin cooked you after you died, I might actually consider sampling it......
@Craig new grill was a star yesterday, first it had turds, then turds with wrapped shrums, then wings, it'll be in a lot more photo's

By the looks, your heart was not the only thing in those eggs! :o
And yes, I have photographic proof of consumption.
Another fun time at the Chicago meetup. Got to see some old friends and made some new ones. Thanks to all for making this happen!

Maybe I can help. I've put names where I know them and placeholders for those I do not recall. (We were all introduced but names are not my strong point. :-\ If you PM me your name/handle I'll be glad to edit it into the picture. (If you're in the witness protection program or otherwise wish to remain incognito, feel free to make something up.
Gentlemen,
It was awesome to meet everyone and be in the presence of not only you guys but the incredible kettles that were being cooked on and displayed.
I look forward to more of these!!

Glad you could be there.....what happened that Troy now wants you to cook him?
Being somewhat new here in the WKC I'd like to thank Brian and his wife Jenny for opening their house to everyone yesterday. It was a day I'll not soon forget. GRATE people, GRATE kettles and AWESOME food to boot, Doesn't get any better than that. The rain didn't dampen anyone spirit and was gone before we knew it. I'm already looking forward to next yrs. meet. I have some pics to load later today as well.
@HankB I'm the unknown in a cpl of your pics. To everyone that came yesterday, it was nice to meet you and hope everyone had safe travels home.

It was a great time. Thanks to all who showed up and made it a great time. It makes all the work worth while. It was great to see old friends and make new ones. I even picked up a few new grills....including a Wood Dale, and an avocado!
Even though I couldn't make it, I wanted to thank Brian and his wife for inviting everyone into their home and hosting what looks like another successful and fun WKC meet up. Love all the pictures. Its getting to the point that I can point almost everyone out in a crowd now after having seen these meetups from my computer/phone over the years. Now I just need to actually meet you guys in person.
@zavod44 - I told you I was a man of my word. Get that avocado cooking now!
Oh that was a hoot. Had a great time meeting everyone. Thanks to Brian and his wife for hosting the bbq.....considering how much was going on that was one very smooth cook. A special thanks to Jeff.

oh god.
thank you for not adding genitalia to that gif :P
@MartyG
@Troy. Maybe you would have been better off not even saying that. The idea has now been planted...just sayin
I think the idea was obvious and stating my awareness makes it less likely to happen. (at least I hope)
That said, be warned that i am a photoshop ninja - so be careful ;)
WOW! Wish I had been there.
Seeing
@MartyG posing with his "birth year" kettle was pretty cool. That little grill took quite a circuitous route to get to the meet up and it looks really, really good! I am so glad it wound up in the hands of someone that would appreciate it.
Great pics everyone, thanks for sharing the event with the rest of us. Maybe next year I'll make it and bring the "Killer "B"s".
Awesome pics guys, what a great effort by all
And good on ya Brian for hosting another memorable meet up
@MartyG Do you have more pics or are a lot of them duplicates?
I probably have a few more embarrassing shots, and a bunch more beauty shots of Brian's seldom seen and totally awesome collection. (I took those before anyone arrived.) I plan to add them this weekend as I'm remote from my "fun" computer during the week.
Who got the door prizes? I must have been in the bathroom when all the stuff got given away.
Lets see some pics of the prizes!!! (namely those sweet cherry WKC handles on your grills)

Wasn't a lot of organization around the door prizes, it was more or less a free for all.
I got a warming rack, Thanks
I was lucky enough to have Marty hand me a Weber Chicken Spice Shaker.
Several factors led to the "free for all"; heat, beer, rain and more heat were the primary culprits. We kind of had most of the giveaway stuff in one place until the rains hit, After that it was anyone's guess. I brought the cookbooks, warming rack, rubs and a couple other things I can't remember from my personal stash, and when we had more than a few members in one place started asking random members if they had whatever I was holding. If not, they ended up with it. If handles were there to give away I was not aware of that.
Anyone who has hosted a meetup of this magnitude at their own home knows how chaotic it can get. People coming and going at different times, food everywhere, kids, dogs and old men to keep track of, not to mention 40 or 50 priceless kettles to arrange. It's a miracle they work as well as they do. We also missed the chance to do a group shot this time around. Just too much going on at once to pull everyone together in one place. That's usually the best time to do whatever give-away may happen. I don't think members go to meetups to score free stuff anyway, so anything that happens is a bonus. Weber was kind enough to support Chicago Meetup #1 with some cool swag. Since then it's been the generosity of members. I save stuff up when I find it on sale or come across a good deal. This year's stash was intended for the Mid-Atlantic meetup that didn't happen. I have a few things squirreled away for the next one - I'm thinking a Nebraska meetup is overdue. Right
@Craig ?
Nebraska...at Craig's??? Now that's something I could get behind.
I'm not looking for accountability or anything, just hoping to get some feedback and pics for promotional videos and whatnot.
I'm down! I have a good sized backyard... Gotta get with my wife and square away some details... I don't have a fenced in backyard yet.
I support @craig for host...
I got the Weber cookbook that is a tribute to the US Marines - "Command of the grill: A Salute to Steak (http://www.commandofthegrill.com/)" and a shirt to go with it. Today I made Bum Philips' Garlic and Balsamic-Marinated Steaks with Rosemary.

Commander Hank - we salute you!
If anyone commands the grill, it's you Hank! Now, what was the wine pairing?
Looks good from over here in Canada Hank.
I received the Weber cookbook...Weber Steaks and Sides. There are some good looking recipes inside but as yet I haven't tried any. Thanks again to
@MartyG for the hookup.
@HankB I have that book and its full of great recipes from various Marines. I plan on passing my cookbook to my nephew who is a US Marine and currently stationed in Okinawa.

@Troy ... WKC branded handles. I'm Hooked!
@zavod44 Brian rarely has time to show off his own collection, (well, he just doesn't show off anyway) but I had a chance before everyone arrived to capture a very small sliver of his collection. Every one of these has stories to tell. Enjoy!
