I needed an elevated platform for a planned cook as I needed a slow sear on some pork belly. So I went to the Weber stockpile and got cracking.

Did I mention it is a multi-level Elevator? Well it is! Gentleman, choose your rate of sear please.

Thank You for the clean, clear cutting & assembly shots !!!!
Great work Mr COOL.... It's on my to do list
Thanks guys. It scrubbed up OK. All it needs now is some heat and oil to season.

Grate work! You just made a very useful tool for next to nothing!
Nice Job!
Nice job!!! I have a few extra grates hanging around, that I could use for that.
Very nice.
Awesome idea!

How did you remove the rust? I just bought some Bar Keeper's Friend to try out on some old grates. But it would be nice to know what others are doing.

I use a wire wheel that is fitted on my bench grinder.

Same here, wire wheel in a hand held grinder. Does magic in minutes! Use caution and follow all safety rules, protective gear, etc. Parts go flying, and it gets ugly fast.

Well done !
Now what to do with the remaining half....
Charcoal fence
Bigfoot comb
Japanese sand garden rake
Maybe I'll try my hand at some welding and make another with the leftover.

Super job Joe! Cleaned up amazing.
Nicely done, makes my Quick & Dirty chopped generic grate, balanced on beer cans, look like a hack-job
Grate "real estate" improvement & adjustable = inspired (thanks)
Vinegar soak, Bar keepers friend, mechanical, self clean ovens. Many ways to remove rust. :-)
Nice job on the elevated platform Jocool ;)

I thought about the open ends before.....maybe a piece of small "C" channel, attached at the ends near the handle area, capping of the cut ends?
If you're like me & slash yourself at every opportunity, it's better to go safe......
Can't have any fun in SAFE MODE though....
;)

If you don't have a grinder you can buy a wire wheel for your drill too. Best 5 I ever spent on my first kettle rehab.
Just watch out for those metal splinters... Nasty suckers!
