Does this seem high for FedEx ground?

Got a quote for $62.13 for a nicely packed 22.5" kettle from WI to California. It was packed into original box and weight was 35.95lbs with $100 insurance. Never shipped before so I don't know if this is high or average. Was thinking about sending one of my kettles to a nephew.

It does seem high but you have size and weight working against you.

I wanted to do the same thing for one of my nephews and ended up going new through Home Depot/free shipping.
More cost effective for me.

Unless you're wanting to move a collector, going new with free shipping is worth a look.

Rates will vary due to weight, dimensions, service type, and location.

The HD, Amazon, or Ace route is looking like a much better option for me after the price shock on the shipping quote.

I saw that too, but wanted to get actual quote and was surprised to see almost a $20 increase from what was noted in that article.

Crumb, Fedex rates are usually high for one off shipments. If you have an account or go through a business they give substantial price breaks. Is that price ground shipping, or express saver?

I'll look into the article shipping costs and fix them if necessary. Thanks for the heads up.

Look into Greyhound......Duke says he has had real good experience w/ them & that they're way cheaper.......

I haven't checked it out, but that may be a hidden gem in the shipping debacle....... ;D

Everything keeps going up & up......the Postal stuff ain't too bad, but not so good for big stuff like this.......

PBE gummi bear, that was FedEx ground for 35.95lbs in original box which was 24x24x15.

They nail you, because of the size of the box. When the size of box is under weight, they charge for the cubic space it is taking up.

Wait....   Is somebody going to ask the obvious question here?

Why are we shipping an assumingly VINTAGE Kettle to another state besides Wisconsin????   My goal has always been to get more cool stuff INTO Wisc, not out!   8)

(Jeeze, last week that brown SJ went to some nut-job from down-und'a and now this!)   ::)  LOL!
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

Crumb-
All kidding aside, keep in mind that the cost of fuel has risen quite a bit in just the last 6 months, so the price you were quoted is probably "fair market" price to ship something that big all the way across the country.

Saxart...it's not a vintage but rather just my run of the mill 22.5 black OTG go to grill. I've acquired a red MT while Christmas shopping of all things and was thinking about gifting this black OTG to a nephew who recently acquired a taste for smoked meats.

I recently shipped a 22 from Texas to Maryland and for a 24X24X15 box at 36 lbs, FedEx wanted $79 for Ground, UPS wanted $78 for Ground and USPS wanted $56.

Went with the Post Office.
