Easiest way Ive found is a hacksaw blade along the top of the metal bowl handle.  Be careful though.....keep your free hand away from the direction of the force applied to the blade (yes, I found that out the hard way).  Unless the handle is really loose, you may want to consider leaving it attached and sanding/staining with the wood on the bowl.  Good luck!

Thanks for all those pics.  The orange glow is so cool.  As far as removing the handle, you could just drill through the rivets.  You're gonna have to replace them with screws anyways.  Why don't you treat that grill to a nice new handle from Brian.  It deserves it.
