Have we seen what the top vent looks like?  Is there no bottom vent at all, or is it on the back side as it appears to be?

From the owner, "Yes, it is a Weber & not a knock off.  Thanks to all the members who sent information. It was very helpful. I believe it is a 1954/55 model. It has one vent in the bowl (earlier models had just one vent in bowl), it has welded trusses to hold the coal and cooking grates (earlier models the grates just laid in the bowl), there is an axle between the wheels (there was no axle on earlier models). It has a lid hook, top grate is chrome plated and heavy duty. Thumbscrews hold the legs on. The red leg cap and leg show very little wear. Ive been told that "The flatter lid with metal handle, red wheels, thumb screws on leg sockets, long stripped tread on tires, no bottom shelf/tray, I think all date to the 1954/55 model year."

What does he plan to do with the grill? Is he selling it? Why isn't he a member here?

Very nice. Appears to be in better shape then some 5-10 year old kettles we've been seeing lately.

Are those original grates? Thanks.  :D

Interesting how quality changes (suffers) over the years. There is a thread about how flimsy the new grates are, but looking at the grate on that old beauty, I can see a degradation just on the grate. That thing looks like it would be alot heavier than what we see today. It would take two men and three hairy boys just to lift it.

I like my Weber's the same as my Ford's and Harley's, any colour, as long as it's black.

I would love to cook on that beauty! You can see the bottom vent in the grate photo.

Thats a real holy grail.  the seller also says "I believe its all original. I have not grilled on it yet, but soon. Then I plan to sell it."  Wonder what that will bring.

The handles on that cooking grate are shaped identical to the 1956 custom kettle. This looks like its just mean and built like a tank. I love it! This has to be a 1955 or older grill. Interesting side note, I've been cooking on my three wheelers lately with only the back bottom vent and the lid vent open, works like a charm and less of an ash mess. I wish Weber would go back to putting the lid hooks further in the underside of the lid like here, the pre 1960s lids hang on the bowl higher and tighter than later kettles and todays kettles. Thanks for posting these Harris.

Something that old, begs the question. Do you follow the antique rules and not clean and restore it, or leave it as is.
