I can state unequivocally before 1979 as I have one made then.

Late 60's I'm guessing, but better Weber historians than me will chime in.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

The Galley Que was in 1960, and the Smokey Joe was in 1961.

I'm an SJ fanboy and the oldest one I know of is the Speckled Steel Legged Joe. (sounds like a rare bird) ;)

1957 I believe. Behold8)

Shaun, i have a question about that speckler with a wooden handle.

If it were in fact from 1957, that would mean wooden handles that look like the ones from 1964 kettles were on it.  That seems a little strange to me, given the shape of the handles are sort of tailored to a full size kettle handle (with two attachment points) and not the offset early joes.

Am i making sense? Were wooden handles really on joes for seven years before thye showed up on bar b kettles?

Yes your making sense. Weber must have used a shot of a later SJ in their timeline photo. The 1960 SJ and Galley Que were metal handled.

Yeah, 1963 for wood seems more reasonable on the SJ.  Flamencos released in 63 had wood handles right, which would coincide better with the wood handle introduction.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.  Anyone have a pic of these 'metal handled' SJs?

(I think I just found my next 'must have')   8)
