1959 back to new condition.
« on: February 11, 2022, 08:54:43 PM »
A few weeks ago I bit the bullet and committed to a full as new resto on my 1959 first yr solid base Wood Dale due to it being in very very good condition 9+/10.

Only thing I couldn't resto is the og steel chromed legs, after removing rust with evaporust the legs were far far too pitted and damage to be re chromed professionally. 2 chrome plating places knocked me back.
Will always keep the original legs.

Everything else on this beauty is original.
The utility shelf got garnet blasted back to bare metal and then lots of body work with bondo/car filler to fill and smooth the bad pitting and 2 dents.
Undercoat and then 4 or 5 coats of a cheap Aussie rattle can paint in new copper colour, then some high quality non yellowing satin enamel clear was sprayed over the colour.

Wheels got the same, removed rust, bondo/filled and sanded and painted white gloss with clear enamel gloss.

Legs, bolt, thumbscrews and axle all got a buff and a polish.

Super happy with how this has turned out.
Looks like it would have just rolled off the production line.
Like a brand new purchase in 1959.

Just need some topper stickers to 'top' it off [emoji1787][emoji1787]

I think maybe one cook every now and then. Def won't be in rotation all the time.

Absolutely beautiful!  Great job!  I think a semi annual steak cook would be appropriate for that beauty!
