My red kettle / smoker
« on: March 03, 2021, 10:20:27 AM »
I’ve got an old daisy wheel redhead that I cook on occasionally, but decided I’d like to pretty much dedicate to smoking, with the addition of some cool accessories. In addition to what I’ve pictured, I’m going to add an IQ110, which will fit the daisy wheel nicely.  Looking forward to my first smoke with this setup. I’ll post pictures when I do.

Very cool and that red looks in grate condition. How did you come across that diffuser plate? Do you have a summit as well?

The diffuser is from a Weber Summit Charcoal, which I no longer have.  The charcoal ring, I bought off Amazon, but is no longer available there.  But you can get it here: https://bbqitall.com/products/22-inch-bbqitall

I think the Amazon may have been a cheaper price, but pretty close to directly from the seller.  It's a great fit for the kettle and the diffuser.

Similar setups can be made using a flat steel disk or a pizza stone and a basket.... couple setups I have for my SJ and JJ....

Yes, both of these came from Slowhand (Greg).  He’s had health issues and doesn’t make them much anymore.  Awesome guy.

Can someone school me on the diffuser and what it’s purpose is? I’d like to get one and add it to the Crimson

It allows low and slow and keeps the direct heat off the meat.  Idea is that the heat moves around the diffuser and up to the dome allowing a convection effect.
