Wheel axle for SS performer

Does anyone know if you can use the same wheel axle from a newer performer for an old SS Performer?  A family member backed into my grill last week and broke one wheel and bent the axle.  So I am looking for a replacement.  Weber doesn't stock the axles anymore for the SS performer.

It's just 3/8" so maybe a local metal shop can cut a piece to length???

Ted - hard to tell from this pic, but mine was rusty as sh@& also.  After using sandpaper to remove the rust, I simply hit it with rattle can "chrome" paint.  Yeah, I felt like a Texican' while doing it - but I'm happy with the results.  If this looked as bad as it sounded, I was going to spray it gloss black.

I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

You should be able to get a piece of bar stock at Lowes, just cut it to length. That's where I got mine from a couple years ago.

If I were vader, I'd meet up with Ted because he is awesome and I'd want to see all of his grills, then I'd go buy a piece of 3/8" stock at the hardware store.

Can't you just bend the axle back? It's steel so bends well.

I meant (and did read) 3/8"

Good idea re: 3/4" 3/8" round bar stock. Thanks!

Is there a way to clear coat new bar stock?

How about stainless steel? A brief Google is frightening if looking at T304 prices, but that's gotta be overkill anyway. What about 416? More machinable, lower grade and cheaper but still stainless.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Stock is 3/8, not 3/4.

Also, get some new washer lock things so the wheels don't fall off.

I met Ted this weekend to pick up the wheel axle he had.  He showed me his impressive kettle collection.  He has some cool grills.   Very nice.  I also asked him about a charcoal bin for a Performer he had sitting in his garage?  He gave that too me as well.  He did not want money for it.  Both parts are going to put to use that is for sure.  Thank you Ted.   Weber Karma.

It was a pleasure meeting another grill fella. I'm still contemplating your ash sweep offer.  I've been helped by other members and it was my turn to pay it forward. That's why I love this site. Everyone is willing to pitch in.
