1999 Weber Kettle restore lid handle gone
« on: April 26, 2020, 08:14:04 AM »
I’m looking to restore my Dads old Kettle I got after he passed. Unfortunately the top handle is completely off. Is there anyway to fix and if there is what is the best course of action to take.

You got pics of the handle ? You might be able to put some screws on it to hold it.

First off, Welcome!  I commend you for trying to restore your Dad's kettle.

I did restore SSP that had the same issue.

Yes I still have the handle but don’t have the metal piece and thermometer. Thanks for showing the the pics I will have to drill I and put the screws through it like you did.  Is there a site that I can order the metal piece and thermometer.  The next question is the bottom of the kettle. I’m probably going to leave since there is really no way smooth out the dings and metal parts. If I was able to smooth out the undercarriage I would think about painting it but I think it looks good with the character. All three legs are still solid but one spot is coming off I will upload pictures. Thanks for all the help I appreciate it. Love other thread you referenced with the work you did on your kettle it’s awesome.

Welcome to the Forum Nate Len. If what your looking for is what is pictured below, you can still purchase them new directly from Weber or from eReplacements.com.

The lid thermometer is part #62538 and the thermometer housing is #94100.

Here is a link for eReplacements:

You can repair the leg socket by drilling the loose tab and reattaching using a stainless steel bolt, washer and nut.  The only problem will be the ash sweeps won't move past the bolt head inside the bowl.  They will usually move enough to remove most of the ash though.  Make sure to remove as much of the rust as possible by using #0000 steel wool.  Then apply some olive oil of bacon grease to the bare metal before attaching the SS hardward.
