Maybe I'm OCD, but after putting in effort to get the rust off a triangle during a cleanup/restore, it drives me nuts when it starts to return even if the kettle is covered.

Most recently, I've been using Rustoleum clear enamel.   When I haven't used the enamel, I've put a light coat of WD-40 on the triangle.   Works great.  I try to do it once a season.  Thought I'd share in case your OCD too.

will WD-40 work on my old rusty knees ? that is a good idea to help keep the rust away, no air no rust

Good tip and I know what you mean.  I cleaned a triangle in evaporust and even in my humidity controlled house I saw a tiny bit of rust.  Looks like I will need to invest in some clear coat soon or just spray it down.

Regular WD-40 has little to no rust prevention attributes.

There are many interweb studies testing various potions.

WD-40 Specialist Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor is highly rated but hard to find.

Likewise with Boeshield.

WD40 make a silicon based lubricant (as do many other brands) which is far superior for rust prevention but is also more expensive. You can also use most types of oils, just make sure to wipe with a rag afterwards
