Imposter or a real Traveler

After posting this pic on the tease thread, I decided to come clean.

This is how I got it.

You might be saying wtf! ???

Let me explain. According to the seller, his Dad bought one traveler in black and another in red color.  The seller had no idea what a Traveler was, but when asked if the legs are original without triangle or wheels, he said yes for both kettles. Over the years, the black lid got damaged and the red bowl got rusted bad enough, he combined 2 in to one good kettle and scraped the rest.

Initially, I was put off by mismatch lid and a bowl , but short distance to (30min)go get it, and seller accepting my lower offer motivated me to go check it out.

The lid, supposedly from the Red Traveler. I have never even seen a picture of the Red Traveler.

I am no expert by any means, but the kettle seems to be period correct and all legit. I am thinking 1964 to 1968 Traveler.

Yes, those appear to be real Traveler legs. A bit hard to tell from the pic but real Traveler legs from that period have a flatter finish than standard legs (almost a brushed nickel appearance). A Custom Traveler was made in the 1950's. This is the third Traveler from this period with a black bowl and red lid I've seen. I find that interesting.

That last comment is mindblowing. Never heard of 2 other Traveler same combo as mine. Come to think of it.... the 60's Weber fireplace not have the same red lid to black bowl combo too?

Very interesting!  Thanks for enlightening me.

That's sweet! Congrats on the score!
