First time brining

Tried brining a chicken for the first time with a suggestion from @mikeinroseville.  Did two birds, one bird brined for 6 hours and the other no brine. Felt overall the brined bird was better and natural tasting with the brine I used and will be brining the Thanksgiving Day turkey later this month.

Started looking for a brine bag and came across the 22qt. Briner Bucket at Bed Bath and Beyond for $22 total after some coupons.  Pretty cool bucket that keeps the meat submerged and they also make it an 8qt. size. The bucket seems much easier then messing with bags and possible leaks in the fridge.  Looking forward to brining some other items. Next up is bacon....I think.

I brine large things like turkeys, etc. in a large  transparent ziploc bag for clothes storage.  A thick garbage bag would work in a pinch.

Put the bag containing the turkey and brine into a larger container (garbage can, crab boil pot, etc.) and fill the larger container with cold water.

This allows you to both get all the air out of the turkey bag before sealing it and then add ice to the water in the larger container to chill the meat without diluting the brine.

Took years and years to figure this out.....but it works great.

Some kind of law of hydraulics at work to squeeze the air out of the Turkey bag.

Also allows you to use much less volume of brine.

No fridge needed.

And, to boot, simply toss out the turkey bag and you are finished cleaning up!

I guarantee this will make your Thanksgiving brining experience far more enjoyable.

You can thank me on Black Friday.

The briner fits perfectly in the weber chill so that way you don't have to make space in the fridge.

Edited the above.....no fridge needed....one of the other many benefits of my approach.

Thats what I was about to ask!
I gotta see if I can find a local turkey, and maybe that briner bucket. I was thinking a 5gal bucket would fit in the chill.

One more reason to get a Weber chill.

Tomato, tomAto there's more than one way to get to the end result. Just glad you now know that the briner and weber chill are a good combo.

I have the Briner and it makes life much easier.  Prior to that I used Ziploc bags (giant or xxl, can't remember), but the briner is much easier.  Totally worth it.

Bed Bath & Beyond mails coupons to us all the time and had a $10 off when spending $30 or more. Not sure if we are on the mailing list or it's just normal ads.

Ordered and received the smaller 8qt bucket and think it would be better for my needs. It's much smaller and can fit in fridge without taking out shelves. It can fit 1 (maybe 2) whole chickens or a small turkey (a rough guess of about 8lbs or less). It was about $28 including tax and shipping.

How do you like that Briner bucket... I usually use a briner bag.   Looks like it might fit in the dish washer. Does it?

It will fit in the dishwasher on the lower shelf but not sure if it's dishwasher safe and don't see anything in the paperwork or on the website about that.
Haven't used it yet but can't see not liking it.
