This is the first list for me. I would like to share this 22 inchWeber Kettle modification. I will build the share as I go along. I will also do a complete review of each step and the final grilling results. Stay tuned....

Experimenting at this time. Hopefully longer and even heat with less charcoal. Also, will change configuration for direct and a firewall over to indirect. I'll show pictures and will report as it progresses.

now wouldn't it be interesting if someone were to create a fitted firebrick insert for Weber kettles.  ;)

no doubt! it would have to be shipped as pieces as there's almost no chance something like that would arrive without catastrophic breakage. I could see 8 pieces working. 2 per quarter. :D

I guess you could make some for the old daisy wheels, but it probably wouldn't make as much sense to make them for ones with the sweeps because the bricks would get in the way of using the sweeps. 


You could "mod" the sweeps to go above the bricks, but then you would have an awful lot of friction wearing on your sweeps.  I suppose you could also basically leave a huge swath of the bowl open for the sweeps to function in.

Here is my update on working with ceramic bricks....
Started with chimney full.. did 3 chicken breast at 425 degrees. After chicken off, maintained 425 for a total of 90 minutes. Dropped temp to 350-400 for another 2 hours. Temp lowered to 250-300 for another 1 1/2 hours. Last look temp was just under 200 for another hour. That was 6 hours without any additional charcoal. I think if I had decided to test a low and slow, could have easily handled 10 hours. Since I am new to Weber grilling, what is your impression on the effectiveness of the bricks? I don't have a basis to compare without fire
Bricks and just charcoal. Thanks for any input.

It is indeed. Transitioning from throw things on the LP grill to actually learning how to be a Weber griller. So much to learn. Just did 4 filets mignon, with 2 medium well and 2 medium. Everyone said best filets ever. Don't know if they were being kind or meant it. I will take it though!

I dont think you ever stop learning when it comes to this stuff. Im an avid cook and theres always something new to try, which is why i love this hobby. When dealing with charcoal cooking, temp control is the name of the game, both ambient temps and food temps. A good accurate thermometer will make you look like a pro!
