I cooked a pork shoulder on the rotisserie a few days before going on vacation and didn't use my main performer until a few days after I got back.  When I went to get it ready, this is what I found.

I don't remember the thermometer dropping into the drip pan after checking the roast when it finished up but evidently it did and that was the end of it.  I should have another of the same type of instant read thermometer and a different one but I can't find either of them so I need a recommendation on a replacement.

^ 2nd on the Thermapen.   Yes, the Classic Thermapen is still 25% off.  Don't think I've seen them cheaper than $59 like they are currently.

Wow, how drunk were you?  I've drank a lot of beer at the grill but haven't melted my instant read yet

Thermapen. Buy once, cry once.

My dad had a few thermometers over the years and then we got him a Thermapen. He was so impressed using it...he said it is the greatest tool anyone can possibly have in their cooking arsenal.

I've had the regular javelin for a couple years. It's still working great. I've also equipped the cafeteria staff at our local high school with one each. They love them.

I have no first hand experience with thermopen so I can't compare but for $26.99 the javelins are great. I've left mine out in the rain overnight with no issues. Still on the first battery.

I would also recommend the Maverick PT-100.  I have both it and the Thermapen.

Both a good, durable, units.

I've read several times that the performance of the ThermaPen doesn't justify it's price, versus something like the Javalin Pro.

that said, what's the best thermometer to get a reading on the grill temperature, being the included one in the lid don't really work.

The pro is a little longer and has backlit screen. Not worth the increase in price over standard imo.

I think it is supposed to read a little faster too? My buddy has the regular one. I should run a test!

It also auto rotates the display based on whether your using it in your right or left hand.
