Home Depot has always had Kingsford on sale in their Memorial Day ad but this year they have some oddball brand instead. Anyone know of any good Kingsford sales?

Lowe's might. They had pallets upon pallets stacked up inside and out.

Are you referring to Embers brand?

Not an odd ball brand at all.
Embers is made by Royal Oak and kicks butt.

Works out to 25 cents a pound.
Personally I like it better than KBB.
Much better.

Lowes has KBB @ $12.88 for 2 18.6# bags = .33 per lb.
They also have RO @ $4.00 for a 15.4 # bag = .26 per.

Home Depot has Embers 2 pack of 20# @ $9.98 = .25 per.

Never heard of Embers. Guess I'll have to try some out.

I got embers super cheap a few months back.  I'm actually pretty happy with it.  I do like Royal Oak so if it's the same brand it makes sense.

I saw the Embers at Home Depot yesterday. I passed on it only because I had never heard of it before. Looks like I'll have to give it a try also. I usually stocked up for the summer with the Lowe's sale on Kingsford at Memorial Day every year.

If you live in the mid-west or near a Menards you can also match Menard's 11 percent rebate through Saturday.

If nothing else it makes up for the sales tax and gives you a little extra discount.  I used it on 160 lbs of Embers along with a battery powered leaf blower.  I guess the leaf blower could be a grill tool. :p

If you use KBB, then Embers should pass your test. I use lump 98% of the time, but picked up some Embers during the winter clearance to check it out. I use cheap briqs mostly to clean kettles with hot fires. Embers seemed a bit less stinky than KBB and should be an acceptable, cheaper alternative. ymmv

+1, I switched to lump a few years ago and haven't looked back.  I typically only use briquettes for seasoning kettles/cast iron.

Lump is all I use in the wsm. I'm usually not using a water pan and I like the fact I'm cooking over wood. And it reacts faster to damper changes.

I would like to use it in the kettles but I don't like random objects getting caught in my one touch. Maybe I just need to criss cross another charcoal grate.

My local Meijer has two 20 pound bags for $12.  It was only a small pallet.  I'd imagine they will have several pallets out as they typically do at Memorial Day weekend.  I'm down to 10 bags of Weber so I grabbed a few.
