Self cleaning lid.  Looks can be deceiving. All that crud just flakes off. Done cleaning in no time. Some that have light coating on but hard as a rock. Scraping with fresh blade won't even take them off at first try.

I know exactly what you mean Greenweb. When I get a lid that has the thin hard coating I put in the the back of the line for cleaning. They are a real bitch.

That's what the cabin cado looked like.  My dad never touched the interior, so it was in in dandy shape under all the crud.  It did not flake off for me.

I had one 3 times worse than that. Used 3 cans of easy off not even a dent. Went to town with about 30 razor blades and 2 days worth of scraping

I used Greased Lighting from Wal-Mart. 2 bucks.   Oh...  and a 10 pack of blades and a sleeve of 0000 steel wool as well as  two rolls of paper towels.   Took some effort but she cleaned up nicely!!

Thanks @Troy and to think I picked it up at the curb on trash day to boot....  I swear by that Greased Lightning stuff.  Cheap and effective

Put a new style ash catcher on it too...
