I scored my first brownie!!!!
« on: March 04, 2018, 04:56:15 PM »
I almost had a heart attack when I saw it posted for free. I messaged the seller who wasn’t home at the time. I told her if she could message me when she got home, pull the kettle back in and I would give her $10 for the trouble. Well, it all worked out according to the weber gods. She told me it was her dad’s who’s passed away long time ago and that her husband “doesn’t like grilling”.   It’s  an 18” and has 3 vents on the bottom. In pretty good condition.  I saw that they sell wooden handles for them

Dumb rookie question : the original handle has two rivets.  Will a weber wooden handle with just one screw work?

Two rivet handles predate the current one screw handles. Search for @zavod44 - a source for quality replacement handles.

Congrats on a great find!

Very nice Brave you’ve got there. Check out the restore tips and threads. Brian can make replica dual river handles. You won’t get a single screw handle for that. It will have 2 screws instead of the rivets. I’d order a nice walnut handle if it were mine. Congrats.

That's a great find. Congrats. Steel wheel brownies of the 18" variety are pretty rare and yours appears to be in good shape. Wait to hear from Brian  @Zavod44. He'll have a proper handle for you with 2 holes much like the original.

Yes inside bowl is almost perfect   Just need some cleaning.   Outside bottom bowl has a rust spot about 4x2 inches but no holes or anything.  Planning to do something to stop it from getting worst.

Nice score!  I love the brownies.  I'm almost done working on the 18 I got last month.  Brian/Zavod44 will set you up with a beautiful double rivet handle.  The old one will need to be drilled or cut off with a hacksaw.

That's a sweet find!! What do you plan to do to prevent the rust from getting worse?

Great find. And for 10 bucks! Garage sale season is coming up. Can't wait. Craigslist is good, but I love the thrill of the garage sales.

For the rust I would just clean it like you will the lid and bowl with 0000 steel wool. After it’s cleaned up, get it hot and season the rust spots with cooking oil. If you paint it and cook on it, the paint usually turns black anyway.
