My dad is big into wine, he's a wine writer on the west coast... http://www.grape-nutz.com. If I've learned anything about what to give him on dad's day, it's not to give him ANYTHING wine related (except for a bottle of wine) because
a: he already has it,
or b: the reason he doesn't have it is because he doesn't want it.
Same goes with grilling & bbqing for the grilling & bbqing enthusiast.

I asked for a WKC t-shirt, and some Zavod handles.

I *never* like getting those hokey 'grilling toolkits', because the stuff sucks, there's always a shiny case that I would never use, the kit inevitably includes a big serrated knife for draining the juice out of a steak, and there are about 30 pieces in there when all I need is some tongs and maybe a spatula on occasion.  And since I love to grill, I already have that stuff.

I second that. I end with these well intentioned "gifts" for Dad's Day, birthday, or Christmas from people who really have no idea. Much better to give/receive a favorite bag of charcoal and some nice steaks... or a salmon or lobster tail!
And NO mail order or steak of the month club either! These are usually heavily spiced up so any natural beef flavors are gone and you're left super thirsty from all the salt.
Speaking of thirsty... a six pack of his/my favorite beef is always welcome    ;D

Here's another one Greg !!!

I've consumed so many six-packs of beef, I can't even sit up straight....... 8)

That's right, a six pack of BEEF! You got a problem with that?! ::)

No,.....no problem here......thanks for putting a capper on a long, weird day !!!!

Sounds like you could use a beef or two yourself  ;D

I asked for a weber apron one year and got one that says grill master, the man, the myth, the legend. My point was that's what weber stands for without the arrogance. Still works the same just not weber😔

Unless it's something you ask for specifically ...  ( I dont think I could ask for butt rub though :o:o )

Thermapen! Even the $20 pocket therm is great. One is never enough. I'm asking for a remote therm for my Birthday. (What was that again? Something732?)

bryanw21157

Marty, I know you have one in mind, but the remore therm I use is awesome.  Sharper Image talking remote therm.

I consider a good gift something I want but probably wouldn't buy myself.

That said, Thermapen, Weber Gourmet Kit, Spice/Rub basket.

Then of course on the non-grilling front, ammo... it's like getting gold!

What does it say?
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!
"But the ever versatile kettle reigned supreme"

A lot depends on budget and what they already have.

- Maverick Weekend Warrior - about $15
- Maverick ET-732 - about $60 or so
- Cover for the grill(s)
- Set of OXO tongs (http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-16-Inch-Locking-Tongs/dp/B00004OCM3/ref=sr_1_cc_2) in various sizes
- Cast iron grate (my currebt choice due to spacing: http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Logic-Pre-Seasoned-Barbecue-Grill/dp/B00063RXLU)
- rotisserie
- performer
- WSM (up to $400  :o )
- mini chimney starter
- Harbor Freight weed burner and propane tank
- fish basket
- skinny spatula (I like this one http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Fish-Turner/dp/B000YDO2MK)
- quality knife
- grill light
- $500 Weber Wok!

Need to be cognizant of what Chad said about the gift receiver having what they want. Most/all of us have what we need. Usually there's something that we want but haven't found on CL. Much harder is to figure out what someone wants but doesn't know they want.

What not to get?
- add my vote for no BBQ tool kits.
kettles, smokers...

Okay, here's a gift you could ask for: A "Buy another Weber kettle you don't need without getting any grief over it" card.

How about a Weber Kettle Club vent poster? I think I can arrange that.  ;)

Thanks again for your efforts on this. I should see mine today, 19 x 27. Printer said
it started to pixellate after that.

+1 for the OXO 16" tongs, Greg.  I have three pairs, and I love them.
One of the charcoal people.

Something like this would be nice:

I'll be getting one when my double headed table is complete.
