So this is the pan from the transition '59 Chestnut I picked up a few weeks ago. 2 of the clips are missing, there are multiple rust through spots, most are tiny. The pan has a porcelain coating on the underside which you see has lots of rust as well. Here's my question, would I do more harm than good trying to clean it up? I'm hoping there's a few guys who have dealt with these pans before.  I do actually like the patina on the top side...thanks

It's not just a grill, it's a WEBER

I have no experience with something like this, but I would likely leave it as it is. It looks natural. If you clean it the holes will still be there but it won't look as natural. JMO.

I agree with @Rub that it will likely look worse cleaned up.

How is it being held up with just one clip? If you can use, as is. Use as is.

Hang it, untouched, on the wall over your television. Order one of the reproductions from the Member Sales & Trades page.

Absolutely you should clean up the pan, legs and any other parts with active rust. The rust will continue to destroy the metal if not addressed. I only use Evaporust. It is a wonderful product. I've cleaned a glen blue like your grill and am starting on another in the near future.

Also your grill is a 1960/early 1961. I've seen them in black, glen blue, and now chestnut.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I really appreciate it.

@TheDude currently when I do hang it I use another twist on pan underneath to hold it up...eventually I'd like to add a couple clips

@harris92   Stephen, thanks so much for your input. I was hoping someone had dealt with one before. Your Glen....what a difference, thanks

Well..  there is no patina.  patina is just oxidation on copper/bronze.. Rust, sure.  Give clean up a go, you got nothing to lose.
