I found a local guy making custom logo grates using 3/16 pickled and oliled steel

I don't know squat about steel is this a good material to use as a cooking surface?  and how would it compare to cast iron?  I have been wanting a cast iron for steaks but I have been leary of the upkeep of them

$95 is whats advertised

I know another guy who could likely do it cheaper for me I am just suspect of the material

If it's not SS it'll rust.
A bit slower than CI but it will still rust.

HoosierKettle

Oil it, maintain it, enjoy it. That looks pretty cool

So being new to this type of grate what's the key

After it cools spray down with some cooking oil for storage??

I work in metal manufacture and would have no issue using that material.  I'd run it HOT without food at first to burn off any unwanted oils.  Keep it oiled between uses and you should be good to go.

We're adding a laser table to our arsenal this quarter, I'm hoping to talk the owners into doing grates.
