This was a gift from a friend that did a rescue. He was just driving along, on the way home from work,  and this was sitting on the curb in a pile of trash. He dug it out, threw it in the back of his truck and brought it to my house. He knows I have been looking for one (he is a Weber Performer owner) and he said "I couldn't just leave it there...".  ;D

It needs some love.  Rusty grates, a cracked table and some chips in the porcelain. Lots of Georgia red clay that needs to be cleaned off.

2003...

Scraping the bowl...

Weber porcelain all cleaned up...

Dome looking much better...

New Weber grates...

SS charcoal baskets...

Table is in rough shape...

New table came in today...

Very happy with this grill! Cooks grate and should last for years more.

I was surprised the clean-up came out so good. I followed this article right here on WKC:
Weber Grill Restoration: Interior and Exterior Kettle Cleaning

Basically soak the crust with dish soap/water from a spray bottle, drink a beer,  scrape with a paint scraper (razor blade), rinse,  spray the leftover crust with Weber grate cleaner (degreaser), dink another beer, scour with steel wool, rinse and buff with terry cloth.  I was a little reluctant to use the blade at first but the porcelain did not scratch as the blade will flex a bit. The liquid courage helps overcome scratch fear. The steel wool really brought the shine!
