Suddenly more "non-Webers" than Webers
« on: August 09, 2017, 05:30:14 AM »
I just picked up a $5 Charbroil "Weber-like" Kettle that I couldn't pass on for the price. Figured I could steal a handle off of it for my Structo (recently painted; I know, I know...) and maybe the legs for my Happy Cooker.

As I was removing the lid to put it in my truck I noticed on the very unusual grate (more on that in a second) the original "owners manual" - like a 15 page manual with a variety of food grilling tips etc. At that moment I decided to keep the kettle in one piece (barring an emergency) and even refrain from making any overt mods.

Note the "adjustable" charcoal grate. Never saw anything like that (I am new though). My dad said he remembers similar styled adjustable grates from back in the day.

I'll clean the unit and am planning on a maiden cook this weekend.

That's a cool grill. I don't know the history but I saw one in the wild not to long ago and checked it out. They must be porcelain as the one I saw was not rusted out and was very old and left outside.

Good score, especially with the pristine manual. Have two, but neither has the adjustable grate.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

There is no shortage for targets with all the residual junk youll pick up on this adventure...

Always got something to shoot at or run over with the pickup when theres no RRR in the works
You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

I saw this thing on CL and was wondering what it was. Pretty cool set up, great score.

Turn it into a midget,
add a padded bowl rim and a backrest.
You could even stick the lid back on
and hide it among the other kettles.

She'll never know it's there. 8)

I'm not feeling the love here... Remember, I was going to likely; paint it, make it into a midget, steal a handle, maybe even steal the legs etc etc...

The near mint condition owners pamphlet softened my heart.

How many black mid 80's kettles can even a kettlehead actually own before he broadens out.

My absolute favorite grill is my Happy Cooker which btw I almost ditched to the curb because she *wasn't* a Weber. Then I got the Happy Cooker story (via the WKC) and instantly she became the workhorse.

I don't need an outhouse. Lol!

We're doing homemade pizza this weekend on the new girl.

My dad had one with the adjustable charcoal grate.

I used this one here for many years:

To me, there's just something about any charcoal grill...
