Around six(6) months ago I bought a new Weber Smoky Joe(Silver) which has a problem as each time I finish cooking on-it the bottom vent is impossible to close and put-out the fire. I clean the grill each time I use-it the next day and each time spray the bottom vent with WD-40 to loosen-it-up but on the next cook outing it again remains in the open-stuck position.

I am now thinking this may be a Weber Factory Defect??

Larry

I have a 2013 18.5" WSM I purchased new, I have cooked on it ~ 50 times and I have never had a problem with any of the vents. I would call Weber, the customer service is outstanding.

Larry: My problem is with the Weber Smoky Joe bottom vent and not a WSM. As I am sure that you are aware that this small Weber Kettle has only one(1) vent at the bottom.

Thanx for your reply.

Larry

Yes, of course. My mistake, sorry

I wouldn't use wd-40, that probably makes it worse.  This sounds incredibly simple, but tap the vent tab closed with your spatula or tongs.  Ash, grease, etc builds up but that's kind of how things work.  Make sure the vent turns while cooking and it will have no problem moving at the end of the game.

Also, smokey joe, mountain, 22, 26, daisy wheel, etc., they all work the same.
